    Facebook Integration instructions are outdated

Asked by cliffpaulick on December 09, 2011 at 05:41 AM

Please provide proper/current instructions for creating an App for a Facebook Submit button via JotForm.

Specifically, I am speaking of the in-form instructions where you can click "Help me get an App ID" (or similar wording). The step-by-step is the old App creation steps and the new steps are different and must be very specific to work properly.

    Thank you.

There is already a ticket submitted to our developers to get those instructions updated.

Where exactly in the process are you getting stuck?

    Glad to hear that.

I had the old FBML code (without FB submit button) for a contact form as a FB Page tab.

I see that the FB Integration could also be used outside of FB - I didn't realize that when trying to get it to work.

I want a FB tab with a contact form in it. How can I setup a JotForm form as its own FB App? In other words, what do I put in the fields required when setting up an App to be used as a Page Tab?

    Thank you.

Facebook integration is different than adding tabs to your Facebook Page, I know the terminology can lead to slight misconceptions.

Facebook integration is for when forms arent located on facebook but you want to get the user to log into Facebook before he submits his forms.

Please have a little read of these User Guide entries, they should give you an idea (and give examples of how to) of what your options are for getting JotForm forms onto facebook.

    Re: http://www.jotform.com/help/123-Adding-forms-to-Facebook-Facebook-Developer-Method-

-FB started requiring SSL / HTTPS in October 2011, but that article was written in November 2011.

-mentions 'no third party application providers' as a benefit, but then mentions 2 third-party apps for integrating into FB page, both of which add their own link at the bottom of any tabs you create.

I think JotForm should have its own FB app where you just enter the form ID or have a shortcode or something.

Anyways, I'll just iframe it to a new page on my web server and host it there. Not a big deal.

    Thanks for JotForm.

My apologies. That URL I posted was different than the one(s) I read...

Anyways, I couldn't create my own PHP/HTML page on my server and use your form because the FB Submit button is tied to your URL (jotform.com) and FB doesn't allow that... I didn't try the Embed button though (see below).

But the URL I included above was actually the answer to what I was asking for. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

All in all, I found a link to http://apps.facebook.com/iframehost/ - which doesn't have branding. So that's cool.

HOWEVER, for some reason, the left-hand side of my Embed options are greyed out so I can't click the '< Embed >' button (from within the Embed Form menu) - can't choose this option: http://content.screencast.com/users/fffxr/folders/Jing/media/c2ce6797-582a-4a38-81d1-f35eb236d279/2011-11-07_0912.png

Apparently that doesn't work either... same error message from FB:

Given URL is not allowed by the Application configuration.

How far along are you here?

The 3 methods in the User Guide all work fine.

They are all shown in situ here.

You can't have 'Facebook Integration' enabled on your form and your form on a tab on a facebook page.

Let us know exactly where things seem to be going wrong and we will get you sorted out.

    Well that answers my question.

Don't you think you'd want that though?

    Anyways, thanks.

Hello, I'm having problems with this as well.

It's not accepting the ID that is correct at FB. What do I do, as I've reset this a number of times.

Are you sure there is no whitespaces in the App ID when entering it into JotForm?

    -

For privacy reasons, its probably better you open a new thread.

In that thread, could you post a screenshot of where you are obtaining the App ID from & what it is and we will see if we can work out what is going on.

    Thanks.

No, when I add it, it does nothing, the next time that I click on FB integration, is there some other step I should be looking out for here?

This is far too confusing for your average user. I'm technical and very confused.

    Please make this process easier.

    Thanks!

OK, I suppose it's installed, am I supposed to be seeing some option via JotForm or a JotForm app at FB? Confusing....

Whats the form ID/URL you have been adding Facebook integration to?

If its been configured properly, you should see a Facebook login button on the form now, instead of a standard 'submit' button.

Ahhhh it did work, just kind of an odd process. Figuring this out, like this.
