Thank you for being a part of Family Catechesis! We are excited for you and your family to join us!
Changes in Our Program This Year:
Due to COVID-19, we have been limited to only offering in person gatherings up to 10 people at least through the end of December. Looking at the logistics of serving hundreds of families in this way, we have decided it will be too difficult to do this well.
With this in mind, we have searched far and wide for the perfect resource for you and your family this year and we are so excited to share a new program with you called A Family of Faith! It is structured as an at-home program for the entire family and will be a fantastic resource for the year. We believe that this resource will be a great blessing to you and your family!
What We Love About It:
This provides an at-home solution that allows children to learn their faith safely, parents to become more involved in the faith lives of their children, and prayer to become more central in the life of the whole family.
There is one curriculum for the entire family. It doesn't matter what grade the student is in, the content is the same. There are activities that are targeted at younger children and others targeted at older children. This allows parents with multiple children to do one session together instead of finding time to teach each child individually.
This is a physical activity book - not an online program. We know that many children will be doing lots of virtual schooling with lots of screen time. This can lead to technology overload and we are happy to offer a program that will give kids a break from the virtual world.
We've heard great things about this program from other parishes that have used it!
How It Works:
Parents teach two simple sessions per month to their children at home. They receive a user-friendly Parent Guide to help them lead the sessions.
We know that it may seem overwhelming to teach your children alone at home with everything else on your plate this year. Don't worry! We will provide you with the support you need to knock it out of the park!
How We'll Help You:
Monthly Video Calls: Parents will participate in a monthly video call which will allow them to get to know other parents, grow in their faith life, and help prepare them to teach the content for the coming month. It is mandatory for at least one parent to attend a call each month.
Catechist Support: Each family will have a catechist who will be supporting your family each month, answering your questions, and offering the help that you need to be successful.
Office Hours: Jake Stanley and Mary Molina will both have regular times available to meet with you and offer additional support throughout the year.
Special Events (Optional):
We will plan to offer special events in person once per month throughout the year. These will be creative activities that allow people to gather while social distancing - such as outdoor picnics, drive in movie nights, etc. These events will create space for real human interaction which many families are missing greatly. Families will not be required to attend, but encouraged as they feel comfortable.
Children Preparing for Sacraments:
Children preparing to receive Sacraments also need to complete the Sacramental Preparation Registration Form. Click here to open in a new tab.
These students will use the same program as everyone else. In addition, we plan to offer in person mini-retreats each month starting in January to make sure that they have a solid understanding of the Sacraments they are about to receive.
Families enrolling in Family Catechesis must also be registered parishioners at St. Mary Magdalene. For information on registering, please click here.
Please complete the form below to register for the year. Registration closes August 31.
