Veterans Upward Bound
Computer Laptop Program
Veterans Upward Bound partners with a local second-hand electronics provider to offer refurbished laptops and computers to eligible participants. These devices are intended to support your educational and employment goals—they are a starting point, not intended to replace your current equipment or serve as a permanent solution.
What to Expect
Each computer or laptop is refurbished, meaning it was previously used and has undergone repairs to return it to a functional state. The refurbishment process includes:
- Evaluating and repairing damaged or non-working components
- Erasing all previous data and reinstalling the operating system
- Ensuring the charging cord is functional
While we strive to provide the best device possible, please be aware that due to the nature of refurbished equipment, some features may not work. Examples may include:
- Limited or non-functional battery
- Non-working webcam
- Speaker or microphone issues
- Missing or non-operational USB ports
Important Notes
- One laptop per participant is available through the program.
- These devices are meant to support your transition into higher education or employment.
- Devices are not new, and while usable, may have cosmetic blemishes or limited functionality.
Upon Receiving Your Laptop
- Inspect the device immediately for shipping damage.
- Set up and test the device as soon as possible to ensure it powers on and functions.
- If the laptop does not power on or boot properly, VUB offers a 30-day exchange policy.
