  • Welcome to the Meet a Mentor - Alumni Volunteer Application. Thank you for your interest in mentoring this semester!

We have made improvements to the program thanks to input from past mentors.

    • Meet in person, if you want. The Meet a Mentor program is conducted as a virtual meeting through zoom. If you prefer to meet your mentee in person, you can politely ask the mentee, and arrange for a meeting place such as your office, coffee shop, or at The New School Library (students can reserve a collaboration room).
    • More seamless application. We've combined Jotform and Calendly apps (Application Form and Scheduler) for a more seamless process.
    • Training video and resources readily available. Mentors can easily access a training video and resources after their applications are approved.
    • Communicate with us easily. You can email or start a gchat at alumnimentor@newschool.edu - Note Gmail users should accept alumnimentor and alumnimentor2@newschool.edu messages and invites. To crackdown on spam, Google labels our emails as an Unknown User until you accept the message or invite. Go a step further and add us to your contacts.

  • Apply to volunteer: Host Online Alumni Mentor Office Hours
Now recruiting for Spring Mentoring 2025
(This application may take you 10-15 mins - thank you for your time!)

Over the 5-year-history of this program, over 200 alumni have offered their time to advise more than 600 students and recent graduates, providing nearly 1,000 hours of useful advice! The Office of Alumni Engagement seeks dedicated and passionate alumni volunteers to participate in 1:1 flash mentorships over zoom with students and new grads. Alumni mentors can speak to real world experiences and provide tips for job hunting, interviewing, and networking.

Alumni volunteers really do make an impact! Advice can give students new ways of thinking about their trajectory and provide confidence and validation. So many times we hear from Alumni mentors, "I wish this program were around when I was a student."

    Some mentee feedback:
My mentor was great! I wasn't really sure what I was expecting going into this experience but it really went well and I learned so much from her experiences. It also helped me feel a little bit more empowered as I continue exploring potential careers.

My mentor was very positive and encouraged me to be the best version of myself. She actively helped me to prepare for an upcoming interview and walked me through each step of the process. I truly appreciate her time and compassion as a mentor and would highly recommend her to others who may need clear, positive and precise direction!

Eligibility - Degree conferred no later than Spring 2024.
To be a mentor, alumni must be willing to:

    • have constructive and compassionate conversations.
    • meet with students and new grads across schools and disciplines.
    • communicate thoughtfully over email and use zoom for the meeting.

    Time Commitment
These are short-term, 45 minute 1:1 video chats that are clustered in 2-hour blocks. Upon application approval sign up for one to three 2-hour blocks that work with your schedule.
