Nature Boats

Come sail away with the Fraser River Discovery Centre! This month we’re headed to Derby Reach Regional Park in Langley to build our very own nature boats! We’ll explore what kinds of objects float, scavenge for building materials, and learn a few simple boat-making techniques. Then, we’ll watch our boats set sail on their inaugural voyage!

This event will take place rain or shine, so please come prepared for the weather.

Registration cost includes admission to the Fraser River Discovery Centre. Pay when you register for this workshop, and the next time you visit the Centre in-person, you will be admitted for free.

WHEN: Saturday, July 11th, 2:00-3:00 PM and with enough interest, another session might be offered at 12:30-1:30PM.

WHERE: Derby Reach Regional Park (meeting location at Heritage Area Parking Lot)

WHAT:
- Explore what objects float
- Learn boat-building techniques
- Build and sail your boat
WHO: While everyone is welcome, this workshop is aimed at children and their families.

COST: Includes admission to the Discovery Centre. Specific costs are listed below: 
- Family Ticket ($20.00) – for 2 adults and up to 4 children 
- Adult Ticket ($8.00) – Adult 19 and older 
- Senior Ticket ($6.00) – Senior 65 and older 
- Student Ticket ($6.00) – Student ID required 
- Child Ticket ($5.00) – children aged 3-12 
- Children 2 and under register for free
COVID-19 Safety:
- Pre-registration is required.
- Individual group size is limited to five (5) maximum. Workshop registration limited to five (5) groups.
- During the workshop, groups are required to follow physical distancing guidelines.
- Masks are recommended.
Winter Weather Wonders

The dropping temperature is an opportunity to learn how winter weather can impact the biodiversity around the Fraser River. This month, we’ll head to Derby Reach Regional Park to learn about winter weather!

WHEN: Saturday, January 10th, 2:00-3:00 PM and with enough interest, another session might be offered at 12:30-1:30PM.

WHERE: Derby Reach Regional Park (meeting location at the Edgewater Bar parking lot, Langley Twp, BC)

- Learn the basics of weather.
- Record observations in a weather tracking journal.
- Learn how humans and animals stay warm during winter.
WHO: While everyone is welcome, this workshop is aimed at children and their families.

If you are unable to attend, the fee will be applied to general admission for your next visit to the Centre. Should the Fraser River Discovery Centre have to cancel a facilitated program, you will be provided with a full refund.
