  • Woodland Wanderings

    From the rustling of leaves to the softness of moss, and the call of birds, tuning in to the rhythms of the natural world connects our senses to the environment around us. Join us at Mundy Park to create a sound map, observe different textures in nature, and learn more about the ecosystem around us!

    This event will take place rain or shine, so please come prepared for the weather.

    Registration cost includes admission to the Fraser River Discovery Centre. Pay when you register for this workshop, and the next time you visit the Centre in-person, you will be admitted for free.

    WHEN: Saturday, June 13th, 2:00-3:00 PM and with enough interest, another session will be offered at 12:30-1:30PM.
     
    WHERE: Mundy Park, Coquitlam, BC (meeting location at the Mundy Park Hillcrest Parking Lot near the Mundy Park Field House).
     
    WHAT:  

    • Observe different textures found in nature.

    • Learn about the different ecosystems around us.

    • Tune in to nature sounds by using a sound map.

    WHO: While everyone is welcome, this workshop is aimed at children and their families. 

    COST: Includes admission to the Discovery Centre. Specific costs are listed below:   

    • Family Ticket ($20.00) – for 2 adults and up to 4 children   
    • Adult Ticket ($8.00) – adult 19 and older   
    • Senior Ticket ($6.00) – senior 65 and older   
    • Student Ticket ($6.00) – student ID required   
    • Child Ticket ($5.00) – children aged 3-12   
    • Children 2 and under register for free  

    COVID-19 Safety: 

    • Pre-registration is required.  
    • Individual group size is limited to five (5) maximum. Workshop registration limited to five (5) groups.  
    • During the workshop, groups are required to follow physical distancing guidelines.  
    • Masks are recommended.
  • Winter Weather Wonders

    The dropping temperature is an opportunity to learn how winter weather can impact the biodiversity around the Fraser River. This month, we’ll head to Derby Reach Regional Park to learn about winter weather! 
     
    This event will take place rain or shine, so please come prepared for the weather.   
     
    Registration cost includes admission to the Fraser River Discovery Centre. Pay when you register for this workshop, and the next time you visit the Centre in-person, you will be admitted for free.  
     
    WHEN: Saturday, January 10th, 2:00-3:00 PM and with enough interest, another session might be offered at 12:30-1:30PM. 
     
    WHERE: Derby Reach Regional Park (meeting location at the Edgewater Bar parking lot, Langley Twp, BC)

    • Learn the basics of weather. 
    • Record observations in a weather tracking journal. 
    • Learn how humans and animals stay warm during winter.
