Colourful Creations

What happens when you mix blue with yellow, or red with purple? From the deep greens of leaves to the soft blues of the sky and the rich browns of the earth, nature presents a stunning palette of hues. This month, we are headed to Burnaby Lake Regional Park, located in Burnaby, to observe the colours found in nature by making our own paint and using it to create a nature painting!

This event will take place rain or shine, so please come prepared for the weather.

Registration cost includes admission to the Fraser River Discovery Centre. Pay when you register for this workshop, and the next time you visit the Centre in-person, you will be admitted for free.

WHEN: Saturday, August 8th, 2:00-3:00 PM and with enough interest, another session might be offered at 12:30-1:30PM.

WHERE: Burnaby Lake Regional Park (meeting location at Piper Avenue Entrance)

WHAT:
- Learn how to make nature paint using materials found outside.
- Observe different colours textures in nature.
- Create a nature painting.
WHO: While everyone is welcome, this workshop is aimed at children and their families.

COST: Includes admission to the Discovery Centre. Specific costs are listed below:

- Adult Ticket ($8.00) – Adult 19 and older 
- Senior Ticket ($6.00) – Senior 65 and older

Magnificent Mushrooms

Beneath every forest lies a complex underground communication and transportation network, connecting fungi to other trees and plants along the Fraser! Learn about the wonders of mushroom anatomy, identify distinguishable features of common mushrooms, and discover how mushroom spores are transported through fun experiments! This month we are headed to Tynehead Regional Park, in Surrey, to learn about mushrooms around the Fraser River!

This event will take place rain or shine, so please come prepared for the weather.

WHEN: Saturday, September 12th, 2:00-3:00 PM and with enough interest, another session might be offered at 12:30-1:30PM.

WHERE: Tynehead Regional Park (meeting location at the Serpentine Hollow Parking Lot, Surrey, BC)

WHAT:
- Learn about mushroom anatomy.
- Observe mushroom features while on a mushroom walk.
- Experiment with different spore transportation methods.
WHO: While everyone is welcome, this workshop is aimed at children and their families.

- The workshop is from 2:00-3:00. With enough interest we will offer additional AM times. Please email programs@fraserriverdiscovery.org to express your interest.
- Individual groups are limited to five (5) people maximum. The workshop is limited to five (5) groups total.
- During your visit, please follow physical distancing rules whenever possible.
- Masks are recommended for all participants over five (5).
Please respect your registered time! Late arrivals may miss a portion of the activities.

If you are unable to attend, the fee will be applied to general admission for your next visit to the Centre.
