  • Coaches/Team Mom Code of Ethics

    All coaches and team moms associated with Salado Youth Football Association and Small Town Youth Football League will abide by the following Code of Ethics. Violations of these rules shall be cause for suspension or termination.

    A. ALL football coaches must be Heads Up Certified through USA Football's online training course before they can coach. (Must present printed certificate of completion for team notebook

    B. All new coaches will undergo a first year probation period.

    C.All Head Coaches must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age, and Assistant Coaches must be at least eighteen

    D. Do not criticize the opposing team, its coaches, or fans by word of mouth or gesture.

    E. Refrain from using abusive and profane language toward anyone connected with the game.

    F. Do not allow an ineligible player/cheerleader to participate in practices or games.

    G. Do not permit an injured player/cheerleader to re-enter the game if further play would jeopardize his/her health.

    H. Coaches shall not terminate game play at any time unless the game officials terminate the game.

    I.Emphasize that good athletes are good students both physically and mentally.

    J. Strive to make every activity serve as a training ground for life, and as a basis for good mental and physical health.

    K. Be on alert for any signs that would possibly indicate health hazards.

    L. Enforce all rules and regulations of SYFA & STYFL. They are only as effective as the coaches' attitude towards them. If there is a problem or question, immediately seek the assistance of Director of Football or Director of Cheer.

    M. Don't intimidate the players, don't call them names that are degrading, and don't yell or scream at them in a negative manner. Yelling or screaming in a positive manner, a coaching manner, or a cheering manner is acceptable. If you are not sure of the difference, please ask the Board for clarification.

    N. Have fun and encourage your players to have fun as well.

    O. Teach the players to lose AND to win in a sportsmanlike manner.

    P. Invoke fair and respectful discipline.

    • Constructive criticism only, not degrading criticism.
    • Do not dispute officials' calls beyond the acceptable questions.
    • Remember team play, not individual play.
    • Always keep a positive attitude around the players.
    • Teach respect to the players by respecting authority yourself.

     

    Acknowledgment and Consent

    I certify that the facts contained in this application are true and complete to the best of my knowledge and understand that, if approved, falsified statements will be grounds for dismissal. I have read and will abide by the code of ethics as outlined above. I hereby give my permission to Salado Youth Football Association (SYFA) and/or Small Town Youth Football League (STYFL) to obtain information relating to my criminal history record. The criminal history record, as received from the reporting agencies, may include conviction data as well as plea bargains. I understand that this information will be used, in part, to determine my eligibility as a volunteer with this organization. I also understand that as long as I remain a volunteer for the SYFA that a criminal history records check may be repeated at any time. I understand that I will have an opportunity to review the criminal history and a procedure is available for clarification, if I dispute the record as received.
