Suicide Programs Accidental Counselling Course aims to provide people who find themselves in a position of supporting somebody who may be experiencing stress and or distress but doesn’t necessarily have formal qualifications or experience in doing so. Whether it be in our personal or professional lives, people often find themselves equipped with technical or task-oriented skills and knowledge. Good listening skills, compassion, empathy, and the ability to recognise signs of deteriorating mental health are important, but sometimes lacking.
Being equipped with the knowledge and skills to manage difficult conversations gives participants a framework for managing conflict, stress, or distress when engaged with another while having the awareness to uphold personal and professional boundaries.
The virtual T4T is effectively delivered over a 4-day period, and provides you with full accreditation to deliver the Accidental Counsellor training in-person or virtually.
Day 1 & 2 – The full program is presented over two half days to give you a view of the workshop from a participant’s perspective and to provide time for reflection and feedback. Delivering it over the two half-days ensures we minimize virtual fatigue and provide participants the time to consolidate their learnings. Day one and day two start at 8:30am and finish at 1:00pm Queensland time.
Day 3 – Each component of the Accidental Counsellor program will be explained and explored in full detail covering the key concepts that underpin and inform the training program. The afternoon focuses on the organizing, planning, preparation, and presentation of an Accidental Counsellor workshop. The third day starts at 8:30am and finishes around 3-4pm (depending on the size of the group) to give participants extra time to prepare their presentation on day four, the last day.
Day 4 – Each participant will have the opportunity to practice and present a section of the program to ensure they have understood the intent and delivery method of the program, as well as enabling them to gain confidence in their presentation styles. The fourth day starts at 9:00am and finishes usually finishes somewhere between 3:00 - 4:30pm (depending on the size of the group).
Once you have completed the T4T and have been assessed as competent you will have achieved your accreditation, and be asked to submit a signed Accent HR Trainers Agreement. When this is received, you are sent your Trainers Accreditation certificate.
