    THE OFFICIAL ONE VOICE VOCAL COMPETITION  - 18031 DIXIE HWY, HOMEWOOD, IL 60430

    NON- REFUNDABLE $25 REGISTRATION FEE IS NECESSARY TO ENTER.

    ALL CONTESTANTS MUST BE 16 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER AND A LEGAL RESIDENTS OF THE STATES OF ILLINOIS, INDIANA, OR WISCONSIN.  THE IS A NON-REFUNDABLE $25 REGISTRATION FEE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ONE VOICE VOCAL COMPETITION. 

    VOID WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW.

    ELIGIBILITY: ONE VOICE VOCAL COMPETITION (the “Competition”) is only open to legal residents of the states of Illinois, Indiana, or Wisconsin who are 16  years of age or older. The Competition will be held at Culture, located at 18031 Dixie Hwy, Homewood, IL 60430 (the “Premises”). All employees of 420½ Inc. (”Sponsor”), Culture, and the immediate family members and those living in the same household of any of the preceding, are not eligible to enter. Void where prohibited by law. Subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws. Contestant represents that he/she is not under contract with any major or nationally known record label. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any contestant that is under contract that Sponsor deems to be a major or nationally known record label, at Sponsor’s sole discretion. Each contestant must be able to produce a valid government issued identification upon the request of the Sponsor, and the failure to do so will result in immediate disqualification from the Competition.

    TO ENTER: Beginning on January 18, 2023, and through March 8, 2023, at 12:00:00pm CST, visit http://www.thatstheculture.com  or scan the QR code below and complete the online application. Online applications will be accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis, and once 500 applications are received, no further online applications will be accepted. On-line applications must be submitted by January 18, 2023, at 12:00:00pm CST. Limit one on-line application per person. There will be a non-refundable $25 registration fee due immediately at the conclusion of your application. Released Parties (as defined below) are not responsible for late or incomplete on-line applications, or for technical, hardware, software, or Internet malfunctions of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections, or failed, incorrect, incomplete, inaccurate, garbled or delayed electronic communications caused by the sender, or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in conjunction with this Competition, which may limit the ability to participate, or by any error, human or otherwise, relating to or in connection with this Competition. All on-line applications become the property of the Sponsor. Any false information provided on an on-line application, or in connection with the Competition will result in immediate disqualification from the Competition. A $25  fee is necessary to enter the Competition; however, Sponsor reserves the right to charge a fee to enter the Premises (a "cover charge"). Such a cover charge will in no way be construed to be a payment or consideration to enter the Competition.


    THE COMPETITION: Contestants will compete against each other through ten rounds of the Competition. Each week the contestants will perform with a live band weekly. The Competition will be held on the Premises on the following dates:

    Auditions will include up to 16 contestants. In the event that there are more than 16 contestants there will be an elimination round.

    Round 1 (open week)will include up to 16 contestants, judged on the night of  Jan 25, 2023. 2 contestants will be eliminated 

    Round 2  (country) will include up to 14 contestants, judged on the night of  Feb 1, 2023. 2 contestants will be eliminated 

    Round 3 (Duet Rounds) will include up to 14 contestants judged on the night of Feb 15, 2023. 4 contestants will be eliminated 

    Round 4 (Motown)  will include up to 10 contestants judged on the night of Feb 22, 2023. 2 contestants will be eliminated 

    Round 5 (Judges Choice) will include up to 8 contestants judged on the night of March 1, 2023.  2 contestants will be eliminated 

    Round 7 (Family & Friends) will include up to 6 contestants judged on the night of March 8, 2023.  2 contestants will be eliminated 

    Round 8 (the “Final Round”) will include up to 4 contestants judged on March 15, 2023.

    The above dates and (exact times which are yet to be determined) are subject to change at the Sponsor’s sole discretion. Adequate notice will be given once a decision has been made.

    The number of contestants per round is subject to change at the Sponsor’s sole discretion.

    JUDGING: Round 1 through Round 3: A panel of independent judges will be solely responsible for determining which competitors advance from Round 1 through Round 3. The judges’ decisions will be based on the following three criteria: (1) Ability (2) Stage Presence and (3) Style. The judges will award points in each of the three categories on a scale of 1 to 10 (for a maximum possible score of 30 points). In the event of a tie, the contestant with the higher Ability score will advance. In the event of a further tie, the judges, in their sole discretion, will determine which contestant advances. Round 4 through the Final Round: Those contestants who receive the highest number of audience votes on a given night will advance from Round 4 through the Final Round. Audience voters will consist of those patrons both in-person and virtually. At the conclusion of the Competition on a given night, each patron both in-person and virtually will receive a link/ QR code to cast their votes. The ballot will list all of the contestants who performed that night. Patrons will be instructed to place their ballots in the ballot box or virtually located on the Premises prior to leaving the Premises. Only those ballots contained at the end of a given night will be used to calculate each contestant’s score. In case of a tie during Round 4 through the Final Round, the judges, in their sole discretion, will determine which contestant advances. The judge's “saves” will also be implemented throughout the competition and will be thoroughly explained throughout the competition.

    NOTIFICATION: Contestants will be notified whether they have advanced to the next round within 48 hours of the end of the previous Round by e-mail. Results for Rounds 4 through the Finals will be announced at the end of each night and will also be posted online within 48 hours of the end of the previous Round. It is the contestant’s responsibility to ensure proper communication with Big Break. “I did not get an email” is not an excuse – please reach out to Culture. 

    PERFORMANCE GUIDELINES: General guidelines relating to all Rounds: No nudity, flashing, or profanity will be allowed. Such behavior will be cause for immediate disqualification from the Competition. Any other disruptive or distracting behavior will be cause for review and may result in disqualification. Contestants must be able to attend all nine rounds of the Competition. No substitutions will be allowed for any contestant. Contestants may not use any props (The producer has the final say). The order of contestants’ performances on each night will be determined by a random drawing. Every contestant must be ready to perform when it is his or her turn. Guidelines relating specifically to Round 1 through Round 3: Contestants must sing a cappella, but may choose any song not prohibited by the decency standards stated in the general guidelines above. A contestant may sing the same song as other contestants on a given night. However, during Round 1 through Round 3, once a contestant performs a song, that contestant may not perform the same song again. Contestants will have up to one minute to perform, but judges have the prerogative to end the performance at any time prior to the expiration of that one minute. Guidelines relating specifically to Round 4 through the Final Round: Contestants will sing with musical accompaniment and must choose a song from a song list selected by the Sponsor in its sole discretion. During Round 4 through the Final Round, contestants may sing a song that he or they performed in Round 1 through Round 3. However, from Round 4 through the Final Round, once a contestant performs a song, that contestant may not perform the same song again. Additionally, from Round 4 through the Final Round, a contestant may not perform a song performed by another contestant on the same night. In order to avoid contestants performing the same song on a given night, each contestant must notify the Sponsor’s designated representative of his or her song choice 72 hours prior to the start of a given Round. Contestants will not be allowed to start a song over. If a contestant misses their designated performance time for any reason including, but not limited to, tardiness, illness, or injury they will not be allowed to make up the missed performance and will subsequently be disqualified from the competition.

    GRAND PRIZE: (1) Grand Prize Winner will receive a cash prize of $3,000. Additionally, the prize money could be distributed to the runners-up at Sponsor’s sole discretion. No part of the Grand Prize or any prize includes alcoholic beverages. The sponsor will report the value of the Grand Prize and other awarded prizes as required by law. All taxes are the sole responsibility of the prize winners. The Grand Prize Winner and runners-up must sign and execute Affidavits of Eligibility/Liability prior to issuance of the Grand Prize and other cash prizes. In the event of non-compliance with these Official Rules, or if the Affidavit of Eligibility/Liability is returned as undeliverable, the cash prizes will be forfeited and returned to the Sponsor to be redistributed to eligible contestants at Sponsor’s sole discretion. The Grand Prize is not transferable, except at the sole discretion of the Sponsor.

    ADDITIONAL RULES: All contestants release 420½, Inc., Culture, The one Voice Vocal Competition staff and their respective parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, vendors, advertising and promotion agencies, and all others associated with the development and execution of this Competition, and the respective officers, directors, shareholders, and employees of the foregoing (collectively, the “Released Parties”) from any and all liability with respect to/or in any way arising from participation in this Competition or acceptance or use of the Grand Prize including liability for personal injury, damages and loss, and Sponsor’s and its designees use of any materials related to the Competition. Submission of the online application constitutes permission for the Sponsor or its designees to use any contestant’s name, likeness, photograph, voice, singing voice, and biographical information for advertising, publicity, and other purposes, in any and all media now or hereafter known, without further notice or compensation.

    Sponsor reserves all rights, including the right to film, tape, and record any contestant’s performance and to edit, publish, use, adapt, exploit, modify or dispose of such film, tape or recording, online, in print, film, television, or in any other media for advertising and promotional or any other purposes without compensation or notification to said contestant. By entering the Competition, the Grand Prize Winner agrees to participate in any promotional events related to the Competition, and failure to do so will result in forfeiture of the Grand Prize. Sponsor reserves the right to cancel or modify these Official Rules for any reason whatsoever, or if fraud, technical failures, unauthorized intervention or any other factor beyond Sponsor’s reasonable control impairs the integrity of the Competition, as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion. In such event, Sponsor reserves the right to judge entries from among the eligible, non-suspect entries received up to the time of the impairment. By entering this Competition, contestants accept and agree to abide by these Official Rules and the decisions of the judges, the voting audience and the Sponsor, which shall be final, binding and conclusive on all matters related to the Competition.

    Is there a registration fee to participate?

    Yes – There is a $25 registration fee that is due upon registration 

    Do I have to sing in every round?

    Yes – picture “American Idol” – the same type of format

    Can I send in a video instead of any given night?

    No, all performances must be on-stage and live

    Are minors allowed in the venue?

    Yes

    Do you have to be present to vote? Can someone vote early?

    Yes & No, you have a better chance of your votes counting in person but we are allowing online voting as well. 

    Can you describe Judges’ saves

    That will be defined prior to Round 4

    What time on Wednesday?

    7:00 pm is the typical start time, unless (with plenty of notice) stated otherwise

    What if I’m late?

    For Rounds 1-3, it’s really first to come/first serve. For rounds 4-10, you really do need to be on time. Remember, this is for $3,000 – please be on time

    Can someone come on stage with me?

    Only if one of the theme nights allows so, otherwise, no.

    Can someone accompany me?

    See above

    For the non-a cappella nights, can I provide my own karaoke track?

    Yes, but only in MP3 format – NO CDs.
