ELIGIBILITY:
Any graduating senior of Dakota High School in Macomb, Michigan who has participated in a Dakota High School recognized academic, fine arts club and/or sport for at least one year of high school at Dakota will be eligible for one $1,000 scholarship award. An eligible applicant must have been accepted (or have made an application which is pending) to a recognized institution of higher learning, including trade schools.

DUE DATE:

In order to be considered for this scholarship all applications must be completed in full and turned in by Sunday, April 16, 2023. Scholarship packets must be submitted online.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

1. Participation in a Dakota High School recognized, organized academic, fine arts and/or athletic club.
2. Participation in community activities/groups/organizations will be taken into consideration.
3. Content of essay and overall presentation of application.
4. General citizenship and character as supported by letters of recommendation.
5. GPA may be considered but is not necessarily a determining factor.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

The student shall:

1.    Complete a Dakota Boosters scholarship application. Neatness and grammar will be a consideration.

2.    Submit a copy of high school transcript with the application.  Transcript may be requested from Guidance Office or obtained directly from Parchment and must be updated through the 1st semester of your senior year.

3.    Submit an essay with a maximum of 750 words, no more than three (3) pages, responding to the following question:
What do you feel is a critical life lesson you have learned through participation in academic or fine arts clubs and/or sports teams at Dakota High School

4.    Submit two sealed letters of recommendation, which speak of your qualifications using the areas listed above in “Selection Criteria” as a guide. Suggestions for sources of letters of recommendation are administrators, teachers, counselors or coaches.

SELECTION & SCORING CRITERIA:           

1.    Members of the Boosters Executive Board and Dakota Administration and/or Guidance Staff will serve on the “Selection Committee”.

2.    One member of the Booster Club Board will be selected to verify that the application to be provided to the selection committee is complete.  This person will not be on the Selection Committee.

3.    Coaches or faculty members of Dakota High School may be consulted for information regarding the individual applicants. They will not, however, have any vote in the selection process.

4.    In order to be considered by the “Selection Committee” the application must contain everything listed under “Application Requirements” on the scholarship information form.

5.    The following factors will be considered in the review of applications:

a.    Participation in recognized academic, fine arts club and/or sports team(s) for at least one year of high school at Dakota.  Additional consideration may be given for holding a leadership position in an activity.  

b.    Participation in any community-based activity, group or organization for at least one year of high school while at Dakota.

c.     Overall presentation of the application, adherence to instructions, information content and spelling, grammar and punctuation.

d.    The effectiveness and content of the essay, with consideration given to grammar and punctuation.

e.    Support of applicant provided by letters of recommendation.

f.      GPA as stated on an official transcript may be considered in combination with all other factors as a tie-breaker only.

6.    After all applications have been reviewed, the top 8 applicants will be selected to receive one $1,000.00 scholarship award each.

Winners who earn a scholarship will have their check sent directly from the CVS district office to the college, univeristy or trade school of the student's choice.  Funds are not released to the student, parent or guardian, nor can funds be deposited in their name.
