The Marine Research Hub Innovation and Sustainability Award at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show are designed to recognize and honor companies and organizations that have made significant contributions to developing innovative solutions and practices that promote sustainability and address pressing environmental challenges to our marine and coastal ecosystems.
Eligibility Criteria:
The award is open to non-profit organizations, for-profit companies, and educational institutions who are participating exhibitors or sponsors of the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Submitted projects or initiatives must have been implemented within the last two years. Entries should demonstrate a measurable positive impact on the marine and coastal ecosystems.
Below are the categories and criteria for the 1st Annual MRH Innovation & Sustainability Award at FLIBS.
Sustainable Product/Service & Blue-Green Technology/Innovation - Recognizes products or services along with technological advancements/innovation (i.e., renewable energy) that demonstrate significant innovation in terms of sustainability, resource efficiency, environmental impact reduction, resource conservation, environmental protection, or social benefits.
Technological innovation, environmental performance, energy efficiency, greenhouse gas reduction, propulsion technologies or alternative fuels, use of renewable materials, waste reduction/management, water conservation, recyclability, social impact, scalability, and commercial viability.
Sustainable Design/Architecture - Recognizes outstanding design projects or architectural solutions that integrate sustainability principles and demonstrate innovative approaches to reducing environmental impact.
Energy efficiency, use of renewable materials, water conservation, indoor environmental quality, integration with the natural environment, waste reduction, and innovative design concepts.
Eco-Tourism, Sustainable Practices, & Conservation - Celebrates boat operators or organizations that promote sustainable boating practices, including eco-tourism initiatives, responsible wildlife viewing, sustainable fishing practices, reducing marine pollution, contributing to protecting marine ecosystems, and minimizing environmental impact.
Environmental education & community engagement, conservation & ecosystem restoration initiatives, sustainable fishing practices, marine habitat preservation, pollution prevention, adherence to responsible boating guidelines, wildlife protection measures, waste management, and local economic benefits.
Sustainable Marina/Port - Acknowledges marinas or ports that have implemented sustainable practices in their day-to-day operations, promoting resource efficiency, environmental conservation, and community engagement.
Energy efficiency measures, renewable energy adoption, water conservation practices, waste management systems, pollution prevention measures, environmental monitoring, community outreach, and education.
