Open Arts Studio Company is a teen dance company in Brooklyn led by Choreographer and Artistic Director Laura Peterson and Assistant Director Sofia Quezaire.

We are looking for young artists to be part of a collaborative, creative group of pre-professional dancers.

SCHEDULE
- Rehearsals begin in the first week of SEPTEMBER 2026.
- This season culminates in a public performance at Open Arts Studio DECEMBER 12- 13, 2026.
- You must apply with your schedule availability.
  Note: In the past we have rehearsed Saturdays 11-2.
- The NYC Public School system has a few days off during which we'd like to have more intensive days.
ABOUT US

Laura Peterson, Artistic Director has worked with students for more than 15 years. She founded Open Arts Studio Co in 2024. In 2022 & 2023 she was Co-Director of the Young Artists Program in Lucca, Italy in collaboration with Dance Italia. Laura has taught and created dance for university dance programs and young artists in the US and Europe.

Laura’s works for professional dancers have been commissioned and presented at venues in the US and internationally at venues including The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center Out-Of-Doors, and Jacob’s Pillow Inside/Out and many others. She is a current faculty member at the Joffrey Ballet School in New York City.

Sofia Quezaire, Assistant Director is a dance artist, educator, choreographer, and creative collaborator originally from Boulder, CO currently living in Brooklyn, NY. She has been a teaching artist at Open Arts Studio since 2022. Since its inception, she has worked with OASco, teaching and mentoring young artists. As a professional artist, Sofia works as a choreographer, movement director, and performer working with artists internationally.

PROGRAM VALUES
- All students have the opportunity to participate in the creative process as we create a collaborative dance.
- We value community and develop our work together with each student as an artist.
- Tuition is based on a sliding scale. You will not be turned away based on ability to pay.

Availability

The company meets for 4-5 hours per week. We are looking for weekday and/or weekend availability. What is your availability?
