  • Breaking Barriers: Navigating Compensation & Emerging Career Paths for Women in Legal

Today’s legal professionals are driven by more than just money—work-life balance and career flexibility are constantly motivating factors in a lawyer’s career journey. Join us for a look at the results of Major, Lindsey & Africa’s 2024 Global In-House Counsel Compensation Survey and a conversation about the potential career paths female lawyers can explore to find career satisfaction and success.

Presented in partnership with the University of Washington’s Global Business Law Institute, Major, Lindsey & Africa will lead an illuminating discussion on the results of the 2024 In-House Counsel Compensation Survey, strategies to address the gender pay gap, and innovative career paths for women in the legal profession.

While the pay disparity between men and women in most industries, including among lawyers, is well documented, progress has certainly been made, but we have yet to reach true equity between genders. The results of the 2024 Global In-House Counsel Compensation Survey show that globally, nearly all roles offer higher target cash compensation for men, with GCs identifying as men expecting 26% more than women in the same role, men in the DGC role earning 19% more and CCOs earning 11% more.

Though contrary to the traditional legal career path spoken of in law school, the emerging gig economy is opening new doors for attorneys, whether they are returning to work after family leave, looking to diversify their skill set, or pivoting to a new practice area. These alternative pathways are reshaping the traditional career trajectory for in-house legal leaders and offer lawyers the flexibility they crave.
