This funding is from the Department of Industrial Relations and Division of Apprenticeship Standards through the Equal Representation in Construction Apprenticeship grant. The funding for these grants comes from CA General Fund in the annual budget bill which allocated $15 million in fiscal year 2024-2025. In addition, this grant also originates from the 2022-2023 SB 191, which established a Women in Construction Priority Program within DIR, with a mandate to assist and provide resources to women and non-binary individuals to work in the construction industry.
Eligibility:
- Apprentice or pre-apprentice in a DAS-registered program
- Parent of child aged 13 or under
- Parent of child with disability (can be over 13 years of age)
- Must be active in the program
Additional application points are given to the following:
- Apprentices in these programs: BAC Local 3 Bricklayers, UA 342 Plumbers & Fitters, UA 159 Plumbers & Fitters, UA 343 Napa/Solano Counties Plumbers and Steamfitters JATC, Alameda Co. Electrical JATC, Contra Costa Co. Electrical JATC, DC 16 Painters & Allied Trades, Local 16 Heat and Frost Insulators, Local 3 Operating Engineers, IUEC Local 8 Elevator Constructors, Local 378 Iron Workers
- Pre-Apprentices in these programs: RichmondBUILD, Rising Sun Center for Opportunity, Future Build, Cypress Mandela Training Center
- Veterans
- Single Parents
- Low-Income (see page 7 on this website on to determine if you qualify)
- Formerly Incarcerated
- Formerly incarcerated refers to anyone who has been in a carceral setting and is now released. Prison, immigration detention centers, local jails, juvenile detention centers, etc.
- Resident of Alameda County, Contra Costa County, Solano County, or Napa County
Other considerations before you apply:
- This may be taxable depending on your financial situation. You will receive a W-2 from CTWI the following calendar year if you receive this stipend. We cannot provide any additional tax information, so please consult a tax professional if you have any questions.
After you submit your form:
- You will get an email to confirm receipt of your form. Check your inbox to make sure you properly submitted this form.
- You will get notified by the third month of the quarter (March, June, September, December) if you got approved or if your application is still pending.
- Once you are approved, you will get notified of your payment schedule and onboarding.
If you are approved:
- For apprentices: You will receive a $2,500 payment within 30-60 days of your approval notification, depending on your selected payment method.
- For pre-apprentices: You will receive a $5,000 payment within 30-60 days of your approval notification, depending on your selected payment method.
- If you are not responsive to communications regarding your stipend payment, we will cancel your application.
- For apprentices: You are eligible to receive additional $2,500 payments depending on how many applications are received and your application ranking. You cannot receive more than $10,000 in a calendar year.
