She continued to do private duty nursing at many of the hospitals and nursing homes in New York City. Alma rendered care to the sick and elderly in the neighborhood. Her loving and caring manner is what inspired me to become a nurse.

She was a Girl Scouts and Boy Scout leader. She worked the voting polls and encouraged seniors to vote.

  • Prissy Artistic Legacy Award for Art

  • "My mom's Priscilla (Prissy) Davis
She passed away this year in May 2025

My mother was my rock, my guiding light. She single-handedly raised me and my brother from the age of 4, working tirelessly to provide for us. She juggled two, sometimes three jobs, without any support from our family or my father's side. A strong, resilient Black woman from Alabama, she embodied strength and creativity. In her free time, she modeled, designed her own clothing, and crafted stunning 3D art. For over 30 years, she shared her passion for art with 2nd graders in NYC public schools, earning the love and respect of all who knew her. She was, and forever will be, everyone's mom."

  • William and Glenda Gresham Scholarship

  • "Today, I am remembering my father, Calvin Joseph who often said that if you are Black and do not have an education, you are doomed to mediocrity. His words stayed with me—not as a limitation, but as motivation to rise, to learn, and to push beyond what he knew I was capable of. Doing. I do believe that if the younger generations have someone who believes and support them such as this committee, they will be more inspired to complete that which is necessary to further their education

. I am also acknowledging God, my husband and those who encouraged and supported me, to make sure I had the tools I needed to succeed. In later years, my husband’s belief in me helped carry me through every challenge on my journey, including earning my MSW.
Today, I stand in gratitude—for where I come from, for who has lifted me up, and for the strength that brought me to this moment. So thanks to God, my father and my Husband William for the gift of education"
