Purpose:
To assist graduating high school students living in the Saginaw-Midland-Bay County Area who are pursuing post-secondary education.
Qualifications:
To be eligible for this award, an applicant must:
- Be a graduating senior from an acredited high school in the tri-county area
- Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0
- Be a resident living in the Bay, Midland, and Saginaw Counties
- Be accepted at an accredited post secondary academic institution and/or trade school (will need to provide acceptance letter)
- Have demonstrated qualities of leadership, school involvement, and community service
Requirements:
- Submit a two-page typed (MLA-format) essay that addresses your career goal and what influenced your decision.
- Submit three letters of recommendation (should not include family members but individuals who are significantly aware of the student’s accomplishments) with at least one from a school administrator/official.
- Copy of academic transcript from high school and all other requested information must be received by June 5th, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.
- Acceptance letter(s) from college/university/trade school
Evaluation Criteria:
The Chapter’s Scholarship Committee will review all applications. Selection criteria will emphasize the essay, student’s character, grade point average, and contributions to community service. The three letters of reference will help the committee further evaluate the student’s commitment to public service and education.
Application Process:
Applications will be accepted from May 1st, 2026 until Friday, June 5th, 2026. A confirmation email will be sent to the provided email address after submission; selected awardees will be notified in a seperate email by July 1st, 2026.
Payment of Scholarship(s):
After enrollment verification is received, a check will be made payable to the student or university by the Fall 2026 semester. Awardees will also receive a certificate of award.
The scholarship recipient(s) must agree to allow Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. to share their name and photograph with the public/media.
The scholarship can be used for tuition, fees, and books.
