• Policy and Procedure Handbook

  • Welcome to Westrock Kennels!

  • This handbook provides important information about our services, policies, and day-to-day operations. We encourage you to review it thoroughly before your dog's stay.

If you have any questions that are not answered in this handbook, please feel free to contact us at steven@westrockkennels.com. We are happy to help.

  • Boarding Requirements

  • In order to be approved for overnight boarding services, we require:

    • Completion of the Boarding Request Form including the attached signed liability waiver
    • Submission of up-to-date on vaccine records
    • No signs or symptoms of contagious illnesses at hand-off
  • Location

  • Westrock Kennels is situated on a rural 7-acre property in Foothills County, approximately five minutes east of High River, Alberta. For directions, you can search “Westrock Kennels” or enter 514004 160 St E into Google Maps. For the direct link, click here.

  • Our Property

  • Our kennel is intentionally small, with a limited number of spots available, allowing us to provide personalized, one-on-one attention to every dog. Each kennel stall offers both indoor and outdoor access.

The perimeter of our 7-acre property is fully fenced, and we also have two 6-foot-high fenced dog parks, giving dogs the opportunity to run and play outdoors even when the training field is in use.

  • The Acreage Experience

  • We specialize in caring for high-energy dog breeds with elevated exercise needs. Dogs enjoy ample off-leash exercise, including running freely on our fully fenced property, swimming in the pond (weather permitting), socializing with other dogs, or spending one-on-one time with Steve or Marissa. When boarding with us, every dog is treated as a valued member of our family.

As we specialize in caring for sporting and active dogs, your dog will enjoy a balanced routine that includes appropriate exercise, structured rest, enrichment activities, and consistent daily care tailored to their needs.

  • Check-In & Check-Out

  • Check-in and check-out times are available Monday through Saturday during the following hand-off windows:

    • 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM
    • 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM

We do not offer check-in or check-out outside of these times.

When submitting your boarding request, you selected an appointment time within one of these hand-off windows. We will be expecting you at your chosen time.

If you need to modify your reservation, please do so here.

  • What to Bring

  • Bring your pet's food, any prescribed medications, and a flat collar around the neck. We have everything else your dog will need during their stay.

  • Pricing

  • Boarding is $65 + GST per calendar day.

Intact males over 6 months of age are subject to an additional charge of $5 + GST per day.

Please note that peak-season pricing may apply during the Christmas holiday period and throughout the summer months.

All rates are subject to change without notice.

  • Puppies

  • We board puppies as long as their vaccines are fully up to date.

  • Intact Dogs

  • Yes, we may accept intact males and females on a case-by-case basis.

For intact males, we implement management protocols to minimize unwanted behaviors. Intact males will be housed and handled separately from other intact males as appropriate to ensure the safety and comfort of all dogs in our care. An additional fee applies for intact males over six months of age.

For intact females, owners must disclose the date of the dog's most recent heat cycle and the anticipated timing of her next cycle. Due to the variability of heat cycle timing, we cannot guarantee availability for boarding dates that fall close to an expected cycle.

If your female has not yet experienced her first heat cycle, we may tentatively confirm boarding services. However, if she begins showing signs that a heat cycle is approaching before her scheduled stay, upon arrival, or during her boarding period, you or your designated emergency contact will be required to arrange immediate pick-up.

Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate females that are in active heat under any circumstances, as doing so can be disruptive to kennel operations and the well-being of the other dogs in our care.

  • Food

  • If you feed kibble, please only bring the bag or container of dog food and leave any unnecessary supplements or additives at home.

We accommodate raw diets. However, it is mandatory to have each feeding (including supplements and additives) pre-portioned into individual labelled freezer safe bags. These will be stored in the freezer and dethawed prior to the feeding.

If you run out of food or are looking to trial different food, we can provide Purina Pro Plan Sport Dog 30/20 at a rate $5 per day.

  • Medications

  • Medications must have appropriate dispensing label and instructions.

We can give your dog the necessary chronic medication that they require.

We do not intake acutely ill or injured dogs, and therefore do not provide medication for acute illness or injury.

  • Training

  • If you are interested in a training program rather than boarding-only services, you can review our available training programs on our website.

  • Health & Safety

  • We monitor all pets for health and well-being. In case of illness or emergency, we will contact you or your emergency contact and bring your dog to a local vet office or emergency department for assessment and treatment.

  • Facility Cleanliness & Health Standards

  • Maintaining a clean and healthy environment is a top priority at our facility. Kennels and common areas are cleaned and sanitized daily, and all accommodations are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between guests. Bedding is sanitized between guests, fresh water is provided at all times, and waste is picked up regularly throughout the day from play areas to help keep the grounds clean and comfortable for all dogs.

The health and well-being of every dog in our care is important to us. If a dog shows signs of illness, they are separated from the general population and closely monitored while we determine the appropriate next steps.

We do not offer bathing or grooming services at this time. However, dogs are welcome to enjoy our pond for swimming and may come home with a little extra "country dog" character depending on their adventures!
