For more than four decades, Slice of Chico has been one of Downtown Chico's most beloved traditions—a fun, family-friendly celebration that brings thousands of community members together to experience the best of our vibrant downtown.
This annual event is all about community, connection, and supporting local businesses. Attendees spend the day exploring Downtown Chico, enjoying fresh watermelon slices at participating locations, discovering local businesses, and taking advantage of special promotions throughout the district. This year, we are excited to place an even greater emphasis on our Downtown Sidewalk Sale, encouraging visitors to shop local and experience everything our downtown businesses have to offer.
There are several ways your business can participate:
🍉 Become a Watermelon Slice Station – $250
Serve fresh watermelon slices to event attendees and become an official stop on the Slice of Chico route. Watermelon Slice Stations will be prominently featured in event guides, maps, and promotional materials as destinations where families and friends can stop, cool off, and enjoy complimentary watermelon throughout the day.
To make participation easy, the DCBA will provide a complete Watermelon Station setup, including:
- Fresh watermelon
- Ice and cooling supplies
- Serving utensils and cutlery
- Event banners and signage
- Promotional recognition as an official Slice of Chico destination
All you need to provide is the space, staff, smiles, and community spirit!

🛍 Participate in the Downtown Sidewalk Sale
No watermelon required! Businesses are encouraged to offer a special sale, promotion, demonstration, activity, or in-store experience during the event. Participating businesses will be included in event guides and promotional materials, helping attract visitors to your location throughout the day.
The Downtown Chico Business Association will promote Slice of Chico through newsletters, social media, radio partnerships, printed marketing materials, community outreach, and other advertising channels.
Together, we can create an unforgettable event that celebrates the heart of Chico—supporting local businesses, bringing people together, and spreading joy, connection, and community throughout Downtown Chico.
