About The Campaign
Data centers are the latest and most prevalent billionaire-backed initiative to turn our communities into hubs for technological expansion, and corporations like Meta, Microsoft, Blackstone, and many others all have their eyes on Madison to be another hub for the growth of their tech empire. We understand the devastating impacts of data centers on the environment, economy, and health on a local and global level are threatened by unchecked data center expansion, which is why we are demanding an extension to the current Madison data center moratorium, which is set to expire on January 24, 2027. Under the new city proposal, facilities of up to 100,000 square feet would be permitted within Madison's jurisdiction, which are proven threats to our health, environment, and economy, and set a greater precedent for the growth of big tech in our city. While extending the moratorium by another calendar year ultimately serves as a bandage solution to a much deeper, virulent issue, preventing the construction of large data center facilities in the city will provide critical time for the assembly of Wisconsin residents to build a sustainable mass movement that can mount a fightback of the proportions needed to take on big technology!
