Payment, Cancellation & Refund Policy
A deposit of $50 is required in advance. You'll be asked for credit card information on the next page.
The balance is due before or at the time of capsule delivery. We accept multiple payment methods for the balance: cash, check (made out to Columbus Placenta Encapsulation), Paypal, Chase Quickpay, credit card. I am an approved medical service, so if you have an FSA or HSA, you can use your debit card to pay your balance. (If you need a payment plan, just ask and we will create one, in writing.)
You may cancel this contract at any time but the $50 retainer is non-refundable and covers time spent prenatally answering questions and holding a space on my calendar.
If you cancel after I have picked up your placenta (or arrived for in-home preparation), but before preparation begins, you may pick-up your placenta upon request or I can discard it and no further payment is required.
If you cancel after the encapsulation process has begun: the balance is due in full and no refund will be given, even if you choose not to take delivery of the finished capsules.
Client Responsibilities
Talk to your care provider during a prenatal visit about your intended birth place’s policies in regards to releasing the placenta. Sign any forms required and have them placed in your file.
If you are birthing in a hospital: remind your care providers upon arrival that you plan to take your placenta and remind them again at the time of birth.
Store your placenta in either a covered container, a doubled and secured biohazard bag, or double ziplock bag. Most hospitals will package your placenta for you. The container must be labeled with your name.
The placenta can remain at room temperature for up to 2 hours following the birth. Refrigerate or put it on ice as soon as reasonably possible. Improperly handled placentas are susceptible to spoilage. Keep ice refreshed as it melts. (Some hospitals, like Grant, Dublin & St. Ann's will refrigerate your placenta for you)
Placentas that are examined in a hospital's pathology lab cannot be encapsulated. If your placenta needs tested, ask for a biopsy to be taken, so your placenta can be kept out of pathology and can still be encapsulated if found infection-free.
Call or text 614-288-7223 within 8 hours after the birth to arrange details of pick up or in-home encapsulation. Please call between 7am and 8pm.
For safe food handling purposes, the encapsulation process must start within 72 hours of birth. If you are not able to contact me within 2 days of the birth, freeze the placenta until you are ready for pickup.
Encapsulation and delivery takes 2-3 days for a refrigerated placenta. A frozen placenta will take an additional 1-2 days so that it can be safely thawed.
Turnaround Time
Your capsules will be returned to you as quickly as they can safely be prepared. This is usually two or three days after pick up. It may be necessary to have a backup encapsulator process your placenta. Clients who contact me for encapsulation after labor begins will receive second priority to contracted clients, although a two to three day turnaround is still the goal.
There may be a rare occasion in which I may be unavailable to pick up your placenta on the day it is released to you. In that case, I may have you store your placenta in your home refrigerator or freezer for a day or two.
