Background
The Bexar County Behavioral Health and Wellness Conference connects people and families living with mental health or substance use disorders to valuable information and local resources that can help them on their road to recovery.
Last year’s conference brought in over 500 attendees with a good mix of mental health and substance use consumers, professionals and various Bexar County agencies all with a similar goal – to connect people to meaningful information about mental illness, substance use disorders, general health and wellness, and local resources for youth and adults. The conference is located at the Norris Conference Center (618 NW Loop 410), and is presented by The Center for Health Care Services.
This year’s theme is Moments of Change and will revolve around the changes we have seen in the conference over the past 20 years, the changes we have experienced as a society over the past two decades (especially in current day), and the positive changes someone living with mental health challenges and/or substance use disorders might experience throughout the course of their life. Many of these changes take place when people seek help, and become connected to resources that can help them take control of their recovery – in essence, the goal of the conference. It’s also important that we share ways to maintain mental wellness especially now in these challenging times. We want the conference to inspire people to make positive changes in their own life, no matter how big or small, even if for one day.
We Want to Hear From You!
We are seeking presentations for the 20th annual conference on topics related to mental health, substance use, wellness, caregivers, consumer/peer, or other topics that might be a good fit - we are open to new ideas!
These presentations are so important - they give hope, provide answers and resources and might just be what someone needs in order to seek positive changes in their own wellness journey. Your presentation may be the catalyst that sparks change in someone's life. It may plant a seed that helps someone grow and prosper and positively change the trajectory of their life as they know it.
Please note: There are no fees associated with presentations - this is voluntary and we look for presenters who are passionate about providing guidance that can help people seek positive changes in their lives.
Review Process
All responses will be carefully reviewed by the Conference Steering Committee for the applicability to the conference, with a particular focus on behavioral health, wellness, substance use, intellectual or developmental disabilities, etc. Presenter selections will also be based on the following criteria:
-

-
Up-to-date and relevant information
-
Presenter’s topic expertise and knowledge
-
Presenter’s presentation experience and skill level
-
Presenter's ability to incorporate the conference theme into the session
Presenters must commit, as part of their speaker agreement, to maintain an educational focus for their session and to minimize sales messages or presentations. Sessions that incorporate a sales theme or message and/or receive low ratings will not be selected to serve at future conferences.
