How do I use just a first name in an auto responder email?

Hello, 

When my auto responder email replies, it pulls from the "name" field, which has a text box for first and last name.

I would like my responder email to say "Hello Mary" instead of "Hello Mary Smith", but I cannnot figure out how to do that while keeping the name response area looking clean and sharp.

Any ideas?
