Taking Pre - Authorized amount through Paypal with jot forms

Asked by c17media on June 08, 2012 at 05:57 PM

    Hi,

I'm wondering if its possible to take a pre - authorized amount on top of the amount for the form with paypal.

    ie.

I have a form to take registrations for an event at $150, but would also like a pre-authorized amount in addition to this amount say $400, which could be then refunded after the event through paypal.

    Cheers,

    Hi,

You meant there should be an included "fixed" amount of $400 in the form payment field right?

So, if I register, at minimum I will have to pay $550 ($400 + $150)

If we add the "fixed" amount just like another item but already pre-selected and cannot be edited will that be enough to what you need?

Will be great also if you can share with us the form and the URL of website where it will be intended for use.

    Please update us. Thanks.

We want competitors to pay 180 to register but also for us to take a pre authorization of 450 incase they cause any damage at the event. Similar to how a hotel does it.
If no damage we don't charge the 450.
    Thanks,

    Hi,

I am trying to visualize your requirement on the form. Could have been easier if we have more info on it.

Nevertheless, I created a mock-up registration form, and this is how I understand what you require. (please see screen below)

The pre-selected "fixed" amount cannot be easily implemented using the form builder alone. The source code should be use, and apply some outside code to make it "fixed" or locked.

    Thanks.

On second thought, I think the deposit amount should not be pre-selected, because it is not compulsory.. just add it as another item/amount instead.

Its a mandatory deposit of $450 but if u don't cause any damage u get it back.
Think like a hotel, they charge $200 for the room and do a preauthorization of a couple hundred for any snacks or damages you do. If you don't do any of that the couple hundred is never charged. If you do do damage then the hotel know that you have the space for a couple hundred dollars to be charged on your card.

    I see. So its mandatory/compulsory then. =)

So does, the mock-up form I provided in the screen capture is how you meant your form supposed to work also?

What we can see here immediately also (if ever we pull this off), is how are we supposed to removed the mandatory $450 if "no damage" was done... I supposed you can worry on that on the paypal interface end.

    Thanks.
