How do I set up an email that automatically alerts the customer when a recurring payment has been made? Also, is there a way for the subscriber to cancel the recurring subscription... we use auth.net

To my knowledge, they'll be notified via authorize.net when they've been charged via authorize.net. In short, authorize.net would handle the rest once your form is integrated with this payment gateway.
