Thank you. Is it possible to enlarge or reduce the width of the columns in a grid report? How are the default widths determined?

You can change the width of the columns in your grid listing report by grabbing the edge of each column.

However, the changes are not permanent.

I would recommend you to integrate the form with Google spreadsheet to format your report in a more customized way. Or you can download the form submissions in a excel fomat

Alternatively , you can use the HTML Listing report or the Grid report. They update with every entry automatically and you can embed them on a form or a web page. You simply need to refresh the page and the new entries are there.
