Why do I keep getting multiple submissions?

    Good afternoon,

We have been getting multiple submissions and multiple email alerts for the same entry. 5 of them will come within seconds of each other. We have been receiving complaints from our customers.

I have tried clearing the cache but that hasn't worked. We are running hourly manufacturing efficiency reports so we need to allow the same user to submit multiple entries.

Is there anything we can do to turn this feature off?

The client is not clicking multiple submit buttons, nor refreshing the page?

The form is not embedded in our website however we do utilize the custom domain for a direct link...see below:

    Please help?!

    Hi,

Thank you for contacting JotForm Support.

It's possible to get duplicate answer especially if there are no limits set on your form. It could be an issue on their end, such as a browser issue etc. To prevent this from happening, please look into setting limits to control your form submissions.

How to Set Unique Submissions on a Form

How to set Form Limits Based on a Unique Question

How to Limit Submissions in a Form

Another good way to prevent multiple submissions of the same entry, is to add a CAPTCHA field from our form builder (can be found in quick tools), or use the Google reCAPTCHA widget.

please refer to the following guides:

    Google reCAPTCHA

I hope you found this helpful, If you have any further issues please don't hesitate to contact us.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Unfortunately we need the people on the production line submitting entries every hour so I can't use the unique submissions or limit them based on IP or Browser. We have a captcha on the form also. What seems to be happening is we have multiple submissions coming in within the same second. See screenshot below:

This issue is unfortunately costing us quite a bit of money. JotForm has always been very responsive and we appreciate a prompt resopnse.

Some browsers, especially mobile browsers, cache form data and will allow users to resubmit the form if they press the back button their browser.  If the user submits the form, then presses back to return to the form, it may submit the form once again if it returns to the submit page instead of the form page.

A captcha should prevent this but it seems not to in this case.  Make sure users are loading a fresh form each time, rather than returning to the form by pressing the back button on the browser.  If they need to submit multiple forms, you can change the thank you page form the form to the forms URL:

    https://www.jotform.com/help/211-Setting-Up-the-Thank-You-Page

This will load a fresh form after the form is submitted.

I would suggest setting one of the limits that help you control form submissions, as detailed by my colleague Safaa in his answer above: https://www.jotform.com/answers/1105925#1105955

If you need further assistance please let us know. We will be happy to help. Thank you.

This issue continues to happen. I can't set form limits because we need the user to turn in an hourly efficiency report on production. So i need the same person turning in the form every hour. What I'm trying to fix is having 6 or 7 submissions and emails all coming in within the same second. Is there a way to set a timer like the form can't be submitted within the same second? Or 5 seconds.

The issue is with the user pressing back on the browser to return to the form.  Without setting limits, we cannot prevent users from doing so.

If they need to submit multiple forms, you can change the thank you page form the form to the forms URL:

    https://www.jotform.com/help/211-Setting-Up-the-Thank-You-Page

This will load a fresh form for them and prevent the need to return to the form with the back button.   Having users return to the form through a direct link or to the page the form is embedded would also prevent multiple submissions.

I did that already. It was the sugessted back in March. I'm sorry but our customer is very upset and we are losing business over this.

Is ther anything else I can try?

You could try putting a message on the form before the submit button instructing users not to return to the form with the back button.  I believe FireFox does not cache form data like that on desktop or mobile.  Having them use Firefox for their browser may also prevent it.   Unfortunately this is not something we can control on our end.
