Why won't Edge download my private encryption key?

    I generated the encryption keys, but Edge did not save the private encryption key to my system. Right-clicking the Download button does not give the same options as the instructions indicate. It says, "Save target as...", and choosing that selection does not do anything.

    @FrSwithin,

    Can you please tell us what version of Edge you are using when you have encountered this issue? Can you please try to use other browsers such as Chrome or Firefox Browser, try to download your Private key again and see if this helps to solve the issue?

    Thank you for your reply. The version of Edge is Microsoft Edge 38.14393.0.0.

    I have tried IE and Chrome, as well, but now it seems that JOTFORM already has my public key stored, and I do not know how to remove it to start over.

    JETFORM does not store my private key, so if it doesn't get downloaded when it is generated, then it doesn't seem like there's a way to download it again. Unless I'm mistaken, of course.

    Ah! I have found the API section in My Account, and I will generate a key to see if it will download under IE or Chrome...

    Hmmm...An API key is not the same as an encryption key. Still can't find where to delete the old encryption key and start over.

    API key is not the same as encryption key.

    Only form that you have on your account is currently not encrypted. On setting page of your form you can encrypt your form by setting Encrypt Form Data option to YES.

    Once you set this option to YES popup window will appear and you will be able to create new key.

    Please note that old encrypted submissions can not be decripted with new key.

    Also please check guide that my colleage previously provided you.

    Thank you. I now have my jotform.key file. For others with this problem, the solution is to use Chrome, or perhaps another browser other than this version of Edge (see version number above.) Chrome allows the file to be downloaded, whereas Edge does not. The above instructions will do exactly as BJoanna details them. If you have tried encryption before, but failed to download the private key, it will state in red "You already have a saved public key." The middle button will (I assume) replace the current public key with a newly-generated one, and give you a new private key.

    Hi @FrSwithin,

    Thank you for the detailed steps you provided on how you found the solution to the problem. Glad to know you are now able to download the encryption key. Apologies for the inconvenience. JotForm best works with Chrome or Firefox so if you encounter problem in the Form Builder again using other browsers, please use the 2 mentioned browsers.

    Regards.
