How do I change the default country on the Paypal credit card payment page?

Asked by julianvan on July 04, 2012 at 01:28 AM

I have a Jotform and the payment currency is set  up and displays in New Zealand currency. When the customer goes to make payment by credit card in Standard Paypal, the default currency is shown as United States Dollars. See the screenshot How do you set it up to dispaly New Zealand Dollars?  Thanks for your assistance.

Hello julianvan.  On checking your screenshot and tested your form, it's saying that the amount is actually set to NZD (New Zealand Dollars).  You can see at the total, after the amount it says the abbreviated currency value.

Please let us know if you need further clarification on this matter.

I can see that Jotform is set to New Zealand Dollars and the Paypal summary (on the left of the screenshot) also shows the payment in New Zealand Dollars. But when you go to fill in the Credit Card details (on the right of the screenshot), the first field "Country" is set to "United States" when it should be set to New Zealand. I appreciate that you can select New Zealand by going down the drop down list, but that's quite inconvenient for customers and, I can confirm that on other NZ Paypal payment sites the default country is preset to New Zealand at the top ogf the drop down list.

    I appreciate your assistance.

Thank you for the details, julianvan.

If I'm not mistaken, the payment amount will appear to have a conversion of the local currency of the card used after the buyer logs in to the account.

It would be best to contact the Paypal NZ help center via this link.

I am still having difficulty with the payment currency showing incorrectly. I now notice that in the Payment Wizard:Account Information I have selected New Zealand as the currency.  But on the Payment Wizard:Products page the price is shown in US Dollars as $44.00USD rather than $44.00NZD   I can't change it!  It is temporarily shown as NZD but before saving the Wizard but when you relook at the Wizard:Products page the currency is set as USD.

What is the cause and solution to this problem?

I have made some tests and it seems that PayPal is not showing specific currency code for other Dollar currencies under that menu. However, you can always see the currency code like NZD in Total amount.

I was able to reproduce the bug with USD currency code on the Payment Wizard Products page (I think it is just a visual bug). I have created a ticket about that problem and forwarded it to our Development Team.

We will let you know once we get any updates.

    @julianvan

Apologies for the very late update, but I guess it's better late than never. The problem you have described on this forum topic has been addressed by a new feature implemented by our colleague, Liyam.

You can now choose which country (and language) to use for your form's Paypal transaction page. To go about this:

    1.  Select your form's payment section
    2.  Click Set Locale Country
    3.  Choose the country (and language) to be used on the payment page
