Is it possible when selecting the number type to actually make the html

Is it possible when selecting the number type to actually make the html code number as well? Currently number keeps the html code as type="text". The main issue i'm having is that on an ipad/iphone the keyboard defaults to the alpha keypad, not the numeric one. When users have to enter a large amount of data, it can get tedious to change the keyboard on each field.
