is there a way to purchase a plan for just a one month. I do not have a need to invest for the entire year? 

You can click on the Account icon on Top Right Corner and select Upgrade

Then Click on the Upgrade button below the plan you wish to opt for.

This will give a pop up to select the type of plan you can opt for is Monthly, Yearly and 2 yearly
