    You can use the hide option from the advanced properties when it is not necessary to show the field, but will still have a big role to play in the form's functionality.

    For example, you might need to create calculations in your form, and pass the total to your integrated payment's gateway: https://www.jotform.com/help/275-How-to-Pass-a-Calculation-to-a-Payment-Field 

    The PayPal field gets the amount from the field called "Total Fee":

    However, you might not like showing the total amount twice, that's when you can simply hide that field, and the form will still work the same:
