Is is possible to show suggestion or show filtered data to user while they type in textbox?

Asked by HVACRich on May 16, 2017 at 09:33 AM

    Hello,

I have a table with thousands of items in it. We use it for inventory control/movement. It is essentially 1000 rows and 4 columns.

I want to have a field on the form "part number" which would be a text field/drop down. As the person using the form types in the box I want to reduce options in the drop down until it is short enough that they can select the correct option. This information would be contained in column 1 on the reference list.

Once selected (or during selection) I want to display the associated description which is stored in column 2. This would help ensure the correct item is selected.

Is there a widget that links to a table which would allow us to create something like this?

Also, I would also like to know if there is a way to pull data from a table based on input from the person filling out the form. Such as have the person select themselves from a list. This would then display a choice specific to them. The dynamic drop down seems to be appropriate. But I want to display multiple choices and have additional input based on the selection made. It also needs to be repeatable until all selections have collected information.

I am trying to use this for inventory control to have people count 4-10 items. Based on the person I want to present them with a list of items they need to count and have them input the number of items for each line item. I don't want to have to create a form for each person/count. I want to be able to update a source table for these weekly counts. (picture attached)

Thank you for any suggestions you can provide to address these two questions

    Hello,

I am not sure if I have understood your question correctly but lets address your issue one by one.

I want to have a field on the form "part number" which would be a text field/drop down. As the person using the form types in the box I want to reduce options in the drop down until it is short enough that they can select the correct option. This information would be contained in column 1 on the reference list.

Yes it is possible to achieve your requirement. You can take advantage of our "Auto Complete" widget which will provide suggestion to user while they type in textbox. Please note that you will have to copy the entire data in the widget.

Once selected (or during selection) I want to display the associated description which is stored in column 2. This would help ensure the correct item is selected.

Please note that it is currently not possible to fetch/populate form fields from any additional source or previous submission data. If you have limited number of data, you can take advantage of our "Conditions" feature to show/hide/populate desired value in the another textbox based on the value of auto complete field.

I have moved your second question to a new thread so that we can address it separately. You will be answered in the following thread:  https://www.jotform.com/answers/1145939

    Thank you!
