Is there a way to remove the form background

is there a way to remove the background. Not make it transparent, but remove it entirely, so that the form fields move further to the left and line up with the text above?

Removing the form background will not shift fields at all.  The background is just a visual element and will no move fields when removed.  I checked the form from your original question and did not see any text to line up.  If you wouldn't mind letting us know what specifically you are trying to line up, we will be happy to help.
