JotForm is still using user history data for submission? / Facebook Integration Pre-Populating Form Data

Asked by antoniooi on July 25, 2012 at 04:29 AM

    Guys,

I remember I did report this issue quite sometime ago and it seems like this problem is coming back again. All the form's data that I received from my customers are all their earlier submitted data. I suspect that JotForm is still using users' old data for their data submission logic (on submit button click).

This had been causing too much of misunderstanding between us and our customers. At the end, and again, we advised our customers to manually email to us the information. Does it mean that JotForm is completely useless to us now? Your immediate investigation will be highly appreciated. Thank you.

P/S: We did advise our customers to clear their browser cache and cookies, but it doesn't seem to solve problem. Could it be due to the email notfication that is grabing the wrong data? Please advise. Thank you.

    Antonio

    Consider the following scenario:

    1 week ago:

Mr A submit a course title: Communication Skills

We received course title: Communication Skills

    1 week later:

Mr A submit a course title: Business Writing Skills

We received course title: Communication Skills

We called Mr A and asked him to clear his browser history and try again.

    1 hour later:

Mr A submit a course title: Business Writing Skills

We received course title: Communication Skills

The same goes to Miss E, Mr X and so on. Got it now? If you still not getting it, please check with your other colleagues.

    Thank you.

    Thank you for contacting us.

I believe that this is not a bug, but a feature :)

Let me please explain how it works:

    1 week ago:

Mr A submit a course title: Communication Skills

You received course title: Communication Skills

    1 week later:

Mr A open your form, and use "login with facebook" button on your form, then our system pre-populate all the previous fields automatically. However, all these pre-populated information is visible for Mr A, so he should change the course title from Communication Skills to Business Writing Skills (and any other information if needed) and submit the form.

Then, you received course title: Business Writing Skills

Anyway, I have submit a ticket to make this feature optional for our Facebook integration.

We will update this thread, as soon as we have any news.

I did encourage my customers not to use the auto-complete feature and they did respond to me as "No, I never use that feature and instead, I retyped it all over again!"

That's why it caused us a lot misunderstanding and arguments between us and our customers, which is not the way we want our business to be! I hope your team can understand that.

    Hi Antonio,

Mike_T already submitted the ticket for this. Let us wait for the dev team update on this. I am sure they do understand your point.

    Thanks.

Thanks Jonathan. But according to Neil, it seems like your development team has been tied up with other stuffs, which may cause this issue not to be responded promptly again...

Hello Antonio.  The development team takes priority on bug fixes, so they will definitely look into this sooner.  We'll keep you posted as soon as we hear from them.

Also, is it possible to know if the person who submitted the form has some browser add-ons that might be the one responsible for autofilling some text fields?

If the form user uses IE8, is it possible to check Tools > Internet Options > Content Tab > Autocomplete Settings button and see if the checkbox for forms is enabled:

You can also try asking to delete the autocomplete history by having him press the Delete AutoComplete History button as enclosed with the maroon box above.

    Thanks.

    Hi Liyam,

Thanks for the effort. But sadly to say, they're all business users and you just imagine those end users in the 3rd world country like Malaysia....worse thing is, their location is far away from me at outstation. However, I can try forwarding your intructions to them hopefully they follow your steps.

    Thanks again.

As far as I understood, filled data is changed when your "old" user is making a new submission using "login with Facebook" button.

Can you please ask your form users to use "login with Facebook" button before filling out the form? In this case, once they use that button, form will be pre-populated, so that they will be able to change the data and submit your form.

    Mike_T,

Our only purpose to use the FB integration is to identify the data owner without having them to fill up their particulars again and again at the same time preventing illegal impersonation. We're not interested to use the data prepopulation feature as almost 95% of our required data are unique data. In addition, they NEED to login to FB before they can use our forms.

    Thank Mike_T.

My advice to your team for FB integration: As far as the FB integration is concerned, you only prepopulate FB proprietary data, e.g. First Name, Last Name, DOB, email address etc., you don't prepopulate those types of data that is OUTSIDE the user's FB profile data, e.g. Course Title, Target Audience etc. Leave the auto-complete feature of all other non-FB data to the browser's technology. Do not programmatically interfere it so that this will help reducing 1 additional factor for your root cause analysis purposes.

Hope your team will find this make sense to them.

There is no way for our team to implement what you are asking that quickly (if we decide to implement it) So I think you should simply disable the facebook integration and let them fill all questions manually.
