Hi,
I have a form which requests information from a particular department.
I would like this department to be able to respond to the information request, using another form, with some of the fields to be auto filled based on the information in the initial request.
I hope this is making sense.

I understand that you want to send the information submitted through a JotForm to another form auto-filled. Is that correct? If so, please refer to the guide that can help you with this.

Yes it is possible. You can use the save and continue later feature to allow the form to persist. It does this by using a session variable.
