3) "email" seems to actually check for valid entry but you can type anything -- letters -- into the phone fields

Please enable the "Input Mask" option in the Phone Properties. Here's how:

1. Select the Phone field and then click the "Properties" button.

2. Under the "Options" tab, please turn on the "Input Mask" option. By default, you'll see the "###-####" format. The hash symbols represent numbers. It means that only numbers are allowed to be entered in that field.
