We would like to be able to virtually populate/update the options in a dropdown menu in our forms based on a list maintained in an excel document. That way we can update the same dropdown menu that exists in multiple forms all at one time whenever something changes.
Is this possible? I have seen many threads from over a year ago saying this could be in the works but nothing since.
Please let me know.

Unfortunately, that is not possible. It is not possible to load the data from any external source.
You can embed your forms with the full source code and then add a custom script that will pull the data from your external file. Maybe a discussion on this thread may help you:
We have a spreadsheet to form widget that can pre-populate a form with the values from the spreadsheet.
