What Is The Best Workflow To Get A Certificate Into A Student's Hand Post-Submission?

Asked by markashton on September 11, 2012 at 04:36 AM

    Hi,

Let's say one has a form that has some questions that are a test for a student.

On submission, if all the questions are correct, the objective is to provide a certificate.

The certificate could be printed off ... passing data through to the Thankyou page.

It would also be great if a pdf could be emailed to the student ... however I get the feeling that Jotform doesn't do this.

My question is ... can you advise on the best workflow that would reach this aim?

    Is it ...

    1) Thankyou page

    2) Email (could be dodgy due to email clients behaving dif

    ferently

    3) PDF (if not .. why don't you have this available via a pdf generator)

    Many thanks

    Regards Mark

    hi Mark,

The best way is probably via a thankyou page which runs some php code to work out if the questions has been answered correctly or not and render a customised certificate based on fields he has filled in on the form.

You could also just send via email a standard link to a 'successfu'l PDF, such as http://myserver/well_done_certificate.pdf but you wouldnt be able to include a users details.

Mmm ... not that simple then ...

    1) I was thinking more of conditional branching via choices chosen ... then if correct ... the person fills in their details ... submit and get a filled thankyou page template that they could print. Does that sound better?

    2) Your second suggestion ... Students could just print off multiple pdfs ... completely abusable so that's not a solution in the real-world. Could you pass values through the url to generate a pdf .... or similar.

Respectfully, there are hundreds of education templates on Jotform ... but no one's thought to think through how to add value in this way. The generation of automated certificates ... well you don't have to be too clever.

    Thanks, Regards Mark

Honestly, not really as it mainly depends on certain criteria of the form to be met.

I see this being possible through the use of Conditional Logic.

Unfortunately no, not without the use of some customized php that my colleague was referring to. We don't yet have a system in place to do something like that just yet but I wouldn't rule it out completely either. All things are possible, it's just a matter of who - how - and when.

An alternative to this in the meantime would be that you could also use a thirdparty program such as Lizard Safeguard to limit it being downloaded multiple times. You could link this into your form through the Conditional Logic or even send it via email.

I believe this is a good idea to implement so I will add it to our Features Request List for our developers to look into adding to our future updates but I cannot provide an actual ETA for something like this since they are busy with higher priorities. We are always doing things on a weekly basis to improve and add to our forms therefore something like this is certainly possible but not always guaranteed right away.

    @markashton

Here is a form that I created that may give you the result that you are looking for:

    http://form.jotform.co/form/22544138527858

If you follow the link and fill in all the information and answer the questions correctly, it redirects you to a Certificate.  You can create something similar and customize it to your needs.  Let us know if that helped!
