Why hide/show isn't working right on one of my questions?

I have the conditions set up so that if the person answers "would this be your first animal?" "yes", that it hides a bunch of fields.  later the question is asked "are you interested in a dog or a cat?" the cat one is working right but the dog one is still showing "have you owned a dog before?" even though the logic is set up to that "have you owned a dog before?" should remain hidden because they've indicated they have had no other animals...
