Would REALLY love for JotForm to release its API to Zapier so that a Zap could be written to automate the retrieval of data from 3rd party spreadsheets and DBs (such as an Excel spreadsheet stored on Google Drive, One Drive or Dropbox), so we could use the data to auto-fill forms based on keyword entry.

JotForm is very much available with Zapier and you bridge the applications that you have from JotForm to Google Drive, Dropbox, etc. Although I am not certain about your requirement of having an excel spreadsheet stored on those.
We also have an integration with Google Spreadsheets, Google Drive, and Dropbox directly. In addition, you can find possible app integrations which JotForm has in integration with, through https://apps.jotform.com/.
But if the idea that you have in mind is for autofilling the fields in JotForm from the 3rd party apps, I am not sure if they have that tool, but what I can be certain of is that our API is very much available to anyone who wish to create integrations for such possibilities. An interested 3rd party may visit http://api.jotform.com/docs/ to know more about the said API.
