How to change "MyForms" default folder?

  • rwaldenjr

I've implemented simple folders to organize my long list of forms. However, the "My Forms" list defaults to the "Other" folder. Why is that, and how do I change it?

    - Thanks

I have checked your account, you do have a variety of folders. Either you can drag and drop the folders to the proper folder or select the forms and click Folders it will open a dropdown on your available folders then select which folder the forms go and apply.

    Here is a sample screencast.

No, actually that wasn't helpful, Richie! I'm not asking how to store forms in folders. I'm asking why when I open my Dashboard, the "Other" folder is always the one highlighted in the My Forms list and displayed on the right-hand panel? Forms in the Other folder are not ones I typically go to first. How do I customize that so a different folder is the default folder to open?

Unfortunately, there's no way to create a default folder to show everytime you access your account. However, if you log out to your account and the last folder selected will be the one that will show when you log back into your account. I created a screen capture test for an example:

I suggest selecting the Folder you want before you log out to your account.

I hope this information helps. Let us know if you needed further assistance.

    Thank you.

    John -

I appreciate taking the time to create a video showing how My Folders is supposed to default. But, that's not working in my case. I highlighted my "Inquiries" folder, and logged out. And, when I logged back in, the default (highlighted) folder was still my "Other" folder. Any other ideas?

I can confirm its supposed to behave like my colleague mentioned just there.

I have re-initialized your folders. So please try it again.

    Aubrey (and John) -

Thanks for your continued efforts, but no change! I cleared my cache, and I logged out and back in having highlighted each of my other three folders. And in all cases, my "Other" folder is the one highlighted (by default) when I log back in.

Hi, could you please test it using incognito mode? I opened your account and the one that is selected is the My Forms folder.

Also, if you want we can make a feature request about making a folder to be selected as default when you log in to your account. Is that what you want or trying to achieve?

We'll wait for your reply. Thank you.

    Hi John -

I opened my account in Incognito mode for the first time (Chrome browser), and it defaulted to the root directory, My Folders. So, I tried your previous instructions about selecting a sub-folder, then logging out. And, when I logged back in, that folder was selected, as you described. So, what does that tell us? Why does it work in Incognito mode, but not in Normal browser mode?

And no, I don't think this requires a feature request, if I can get it to work routinely as it should. I was concerned because of its nuisance factor; requiring extra clicks when I'm designing forms and need to keep returning back-and-forth to the Dashboard from Build mode. Its a pain to have to keep re-selecting the sub-folder every time. However, I notice that this problem is resolved in Incognito mode too. And, JotForm's developers probably have much more important suggestions to work on than this. But, thanks for asking!

Thank you for additional information and understanding.

It is true, such feature would have low priority since all features depend on how many of users are asking for the same, that increases the possibility for implementation.

    Thank you again.

    Cheers.

    Nik -

While I'm not interested in having this become a feature request, you haven't answered my questions about why my interface only seems to work in Incognito mode, and how to fix whatever it is. I don't want to keep switching browser modes every time I try to use your product. Whatever is causing the problem, that needs to be fixed!

You can try reset your browser settings:

    Thanks Aubrey -

That seemed to resolve the problem. (Now I'll have to see what else I might have just broken by resetting everything!?!  LoL  ) So, what's the difference in Incognito mode vs. normal mode that indicated I needed to reset my browser? I didn't know they were different, other than to obfuscate the user's IP address.

    Thanks Aubrey -

That seemed to resolve the problem.

    Great!

So, what's the difference in Incognito mode vs. normal mode that indicated I needed to reset my browser? I didn't know they were different, other than to obfuscate the user's IP address.

Incognito mode is more secure and private. Its basically the same thing except it doesn't keep cookies, history, cached images, etc. It removes all traces of you in a browser session to increase privacy. It also disables plugins, which increases security.

And it doesn't actually obfuscate your IP address.

Regular mode is more relaxed. It remembers your sessions. For example you will be able to resume a login instead of typing your username/password each time. It keeps all cookies, history, and cache. Then your plugins will be also be active by default.

Note that you can still clear your cookies, history, cache, etc manually.

Resetting your browser settings basically re-initializes your browser. So that all its settings are put back to their original default state (before any configuration was applied)

That's a great explanation Aubrey! I never use Incognito mode. But, I apparently had a misunderstanding of what it does. Its odd that I cleared my browser's cache several times, however, and to no effect!?! Nevertheless, there may be a plugin that's interfering with JotForm's UI. So, I'll do some more testing. And, I'll report back to this thread if I find anything significant. You might be able to add it to your support toolbox should anyone else have this problem.

    Thanks again!
