Exported data with Markdown Text Editor ON includes unintended html codes in the data

    Hi all,

When I turn on Markdown Text Editing for a text field, the data exported from it (into Trello) shows up sometimes with HTML language, or unformatted.  For example:

    <div>- list 1</div>

Is there a way to use/capture Markdown text using this editor?  I realize it depends on Trello's capacity as well, but if there's any context I need to know it would be helpful.

    I see what you meant.

If Markdown editor is ON, it will allow formatted data entry using the Long Text entry field.

    Example:

those texts with formatting in the field were the html codes came from when you import the data using the Long Text entry field.

This is how the mark down text work. If you do not want to include those html codes on the imported data, you can use the simple text version or turn OFF Markdown editor.

    OR

I think it is possible also to import mark down data into Trello as long as the destination field is also capable of the mark down data type.

    I found this link https://trello.com/c/zddNDKVl/13-add-text-formatting-with-markdown

You can check on Trello side as well.

I hope this help. Let us know how we can be of further assistance.

    Hi there,

Thanks for getting that information for me.  It's a bit confusing because the feature is called Markdown editor, but it's not compatible with Trello's markdown at all (even the parts Trello accepts).  The only way text is compatible with Trello is if "Markdown editor" is turned off, and the form user knows Trello Markdown.

What I expected from "Markdown editor" was that a user that doesn't understand Markdown  (all of mine) would be able to use buttons to quickly format their text.  Unfortunately, it seems that it is just a rich text editor, or it is incompatible with Trello Markdown.

    Thanks anyways for the help,

    Sam

    Hi Sam,

I found a workaround that you may want to try also.

Using the Conditions tool you can update first the rich text formatted data into the non formatted data entry (using Long Text entry with Markdown editor OFF)

    Example:

Let me know your thought on this.

You can hide the duplicate Long Text entry field from the user so that they will not see it on the form. You can use that data then to import to Trello.

That's great!  Thanks for showing me the calculation condition--I haven't gotten to learn much about it until now.  While it does remove line breaks, because that is formatted with <div>, it might be useful in the future and I'm glad to know that option.

    Thanks again!
