I got rid of a text input in the form but it's still showing as a column in Google Sheets and I want to get rid of it. I don't want to break the integration. Is there anyway to remove it without having to create a new link?

Once a new submission will be received, your google sheet should update automatically and remove the column of your recently deleted form field.

The Integrated Google Spreadsheet will not automatically remove (update) the column of the field that you have deleted.
You can manually remove the Column by right-clicking it and then selecting Delete Column.
However, I cannot guarantee that the integration will work again. I have tested this in a demo form and the integration was working after deleting the column that I have deleted in the form.
If you need to make changes to the form, I suggest you try using the IMPORTRANGE function in another Google Spreadsheet and make the edits in that sheet.
