Ability to get rid of the prefix on the fields names.

    Hi,

When I export my form as a PDF, I noticed that my custom field names have been expanded to include "q1_", "q2_", "q3_" in front. I don't want this to happen--I need the field names to appear exactly as I typed them in, without this addition.

Is it possible to suppress this automatic naming convention?

    Thank you for your help!

To create a fillable PDF, please follow this guide: https://www.jotform.com/help/212-How-to-Create-a-PDF-Form

If the issue still persists, please contact us again and provide the form link so we can try to replicate the issue.

    Thank you.

    Hi John,

Thanks for responding! Yep, I exported following those exact instructions, and the fields are being named with the "q1_" prefix in the resulting PDF.

Here's the direct link to my test form:

    Thanks for taking a look!

I cloned your form to test it on my end and I was not able to replicate the issue. Here's a screencast of my test:

May we know what PDF reader you are using so we can try to replicate the issue?

We'll wait for your reply. Thank you.

    Hi John,

Oh yes, the fields work fine for me, too. The problem is how the hidden field data names are worded.

If you are using Adobe Acrobat Pro, you can use the "Prepare Form" tool panel to view the hidden data names of the fields. This is the name that binds the data that is entered into the PDF form fields to the data columns in the Jot database when the form is submitted.

I need each field's data name to be exactly as I entered it into Jot when I was building the form (under Short Text Entry Properties>Advanced tab>Field Details>Unique Name), but the Jot system is adding on "q1_" to the front of each field's data name when I export to PDF.

I need to override the forced renaming of the "Unique Name" I entered for each field.

    Thanks!

The short answer is no, it's not possible to get rid of the prefix in the fields names since it's something already defined on the form's structure; however, I will pass this as feature request to our second level, although we cannot ensure this can be implemented or provide an ETA, we will keep you updated via this thread.

    Thanks.

Ah, gotcha. Sorry to hear that. Thank you for passing it along to your second level. Being able to define the field names would be particularly useful when someone is using Jot to gather data that they plan to later add to another database. We have preset naming conventions that we need to adhere to, and it's a bother to rename everything manually after export. :)

Thanks for keeping me updated via this thread!
