How do I turn off getting the error messages before submit button pressed

    When a visitor moves away from a required field before filling it in, the background changes to a wild red colour and the Required Field error message appears. Is there a way to a) only have the error messages appear when a user presses the submit button, and b) turn off the red background altogether.

    Thank you.

    Hi Belletents,

    Unfortunately that is the intended behavior for required fields at this time.  I will assign this to the developers as a feature request.  Hopefully we will have something for you soon but it will probably be a low priority change.

    Thanks,

    Daniel

    You can customise the layout of the form by using Inject Custom CSS feature.
    This code removes the red background color when an error occurs after submission.

    1) Open your form to edit.

    2) On the top toolbar> Setup and Share > Preferences

    3) Write the text below in Inject Custom CSS.

    .form-line-error{
    background: #FFFFFF;}

    4) Click OK.

    You can use Firefox's Firebug toolbar to find out the CSS class for every form field.

    Thank you DanielGriffin for your reply. Until the option is available of getting a Required Field error message only if a required form field is not filled when the Submit button is pressed, I am considering turning off required fields so as not to 'shout' at my users to fill them in whilst they are still completing the form.

    That's great mliz, at least that gets rid of the red. Many thanks.

    Has this every been fixed? I was just testing my form and was shocked to see this behavior.

    It is intended behaviour.

    If you want any help customising the error message or its colours, please open a new thread and we will do our best to help you out.

    Well, I get that it's intended but that doesn't mean it's a good idea. You should probably reconsider it, but in the meantime I was able to change the red background so I guess it's either that or no required fields. Thanks.

    I know this is an old question, but in case anyone else comes across this looking for answers, you can do the following to stop the error message from popping up. Inject custom CSS and do:

    .form-line-error .form-error-message {

    display:none;

    }

    This will keep the red border around fields missing values, but get rid of the error message.
