    Hello,

I built this form https://www.jotform.com/build/82036825793161 and embedded it on one of my pages running on my localhost. When I went to test it out, I got a 429 error (rate limit). I'm the only one submitting forms from my ip address - what might the be cause of this?

I work for code.org - as I recall we have an exception to existing jotform rate limiting.

Please try clearing your form cache and browser cache and observe if you are still getting this error.

    Looking forward for your response.

    Still getting the error.

Further observation - when I leave my work WiFi and tether my phone, I can submit without rate limiting

(FYI I'm both mehal and site_codeorg)
This isn't just on our wifi network - coworkers in Arizona are getting the same error

We're trying it out on this form now - https://form.jotform.com/82047047793159. I made a new form earlier to day thinking that the problem was with my account

I just submitted this new form, and it went through successfully. How many times are you trying to submit your form from the same IP address?  Please note that we have a limit of 60 submissions per minute from the same IP address. This is in order to prevent spam.

Please note that "Rate limit exceeded" error message is shown only when you receive more than 60 submissions in a minute from same IP.

Can you please check and confirm if you have received more than 60 submissions from same IP?

We will wait for your response.

I'm the only one submitting the form and have only received 5 total submissions

So here's a full braindump of everything I can tell you about this bug

    - The form - https://form.jotform.com/82047047793159

    - It only seems to occur during the daytime. After 6PM I can submit forms just fine.

    - Me, and a couple work colleagues are the only people submitting this form. There have been 5 total submissions. I'm confident there aren't 60 people per minute submitting answers.

    - When I submit connected to my work wifi, I get rate limited. When I submit tethered to my phone, I don't get rate limited.

    - My colleague in Phoenix is able to repro the exact behavior.

    - I believe Code.org has a specific exception to existing rate limiting policies.

Thanks for the details, I have forwarded this to our back-end team. Could you also let us know what your IP address is?

I have added your IP Address to the Whitelist.

The thread has also been escalated to our developers to see if there is something that can be done on our side to prevent this from happening in the future.

We are sorry for any inconvenience.

Thanks - but I'm still getting the submission limit. Does it take a little while to propagate?

The rate limit is something our development team would need to address.  Whitelisting the IP would only matter if your IP was blocked, it doesn't reset the rate limit.  It seems there should have been an exception added from your last thread but I am not sure if there was.  As soon as our development team has had a chance to address this, we will update you here.

    Hi Jotform Support:

Thank you for your help in resolving this issue. I want to make sure it's understood that we're seeing production impact at this point and we would appreciate if you could advise an ETA on when we can expect the development team to investigate, respond, and provide a solution. I'm happy to arrange a phone call with our teams to ensure we're all working toward that goal.

Related, are there published SLAs for rate limiting in your documentation that you can point me to? Much appreciated.

    Anthony

Unfortunately, we cannot provide you an ETA. I can only assure you that this thread has been assigned to our L2 team and once an update is available, you will be notified in this thread. We thank you for your patience in the meantime.

    Hi,

We're seeing this issue on unrelated forms too. A coworker just tried to fill out an application (https://www.nonprofitlearninglab.org/augustregister) to a conference and couldn't submit. We debugged a little and see that it's an embedded Jotform and the submit button is getting this same rate limited error. We were the only ones here submitting the form and tried multiple times. Like above, it worked when tethered to a cell phone but not on wifi.

    Please fix.

This has been assigned to a developer and given a rather high priority.  We do not have any further updates we can provide at this time but as soon as this is addressed we will let you know here in this thread.

    Hello,

We see that specified form #82047047793159 is belonged to account "site_codeorg" and #82036825793161 belongs to account "mehals". We have excluded both accounts from rate limit check. You will not be experiencing any rate limit errors. Please check and confirm on your side and please let us know if you need any further assistance.

    Regards,

    Aydan
