Feature Request: Can I duplicate/copy a set of questions and move/paste to a different section?

Asked by Jacs on February 28, 2011 at 09:04 PM

I'm asking very similar sets of questions but applied to different individuals. I'd like to duplicate or copy a set of questions or a page and move or paste that date into a new page or a different section. Is this possible, or do I have to duplicate each question individually?

    Hi Jacs

You can easily duplicate an existing form.

    1. On My Forms page, right click on the form and then click on "Clone Form"

    or...

    2. On My Forms page, click on "New Form" and then select "Import Form" -> "Clone an existing form".

If you are duplicating lots of forms, it might be worthwhile to create a template first.  Follow this link for a guide on how to do that.

I have the same question as Jacs. Here's an example of what I want to do and what I think he's asking.

Design a form to collect the same type of information on five different people:

    Person 1: Name

    Address

    DOB

    Gender

    Height

    Jacket Size

Person 2 = Want to collect the same type of information on this person

Person 3 = Want to collect the same type of information on this person

Person 4 = Want to collect the same type of information on this person

Person 5 = Want to collect the same type of information on this person

Once you've designed the form to collect the information on Person 1, is there a way to clone the above fields in bulk without having to use the duplicate option to duplicate the individual fields and then drag them into position?

    Thanks Alhines,

After rereading the question I see that Jacs is indeed asking to duplicate fields within a single form.  i'm afraid that the only way to do that is to duplicate each question individually.

Jacs, this is done by clicking the properties (gear) icon on a particular field and then selecting Duplicate.

    Thanks,

    Daniel

Ya, I went back-and-forth with the support team on this. They told me they are working on developing this option, but right now- it is not available. Duplicating each question is the only way to duplicate a set of questions. :(

You MUST create a way to duplicate sections!

I cant believe this form can't do this!

    Has this been updated yet???

Even if the duplicate function threw the duplicate to the end of the form (as opposed to right underneath the copied question), that would be helpful. Then you could duplicate the questions, they would be in order at the end of the form and then you could throw a page break in.

This is going to be laborious! Everything else is so easy!

    Hi there,

I do see how this might be useful. However, our developers are working on a long line of requested features. Each feature has to be coded, tested, debugged and then rolled out. That is why as much as we would like to implement them sooner it is simply not possible. Nevertheless, we only want to make sure that everything we come out with is working 100%. Rest assured, we will try to get them ready as soon as possible.

    Thank you for your patience.

If we could select all or some areas of a page and then select duplicate, that would be a big help!  I am spending a lot of time collecting basic contact information for four people.

    Hi willr,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, indeed this is one of the more popular feature requests and is already in our to do list. We apologize if we cannot give an ETD at this time but we will let you know through our Twitter account and blog once this becomes available.

Same goes over here. I have many fields which should be copied within same form. Any ETA?

Thanks for your amazing product! :)

"Nice to do" seems like it is  a low priority - surely from the feddback it should be marked as more important  than that. I would have thought it would be part of the basic functionalilty of any form - other form builders can do this without issue.

    @GarvanFlow

Thanks for refreshing us about this feature request. I've now marked this request as "Important" though we can't still assure or provide a definite time to when this feature will be taken care of but we'll inform you here once we have something to report.

    Thanks!

I found this thread when searching for whether or not it is possible to copy a section of a form. The form I am working on has 17 identical sections, but each section has many options and many conditions. It would save me hours of duplicating individual fields if I could copy entire sections of the form. It appears that this feature is not available yet, so I will have to invest the time on the current form. I hope it will be availabe soon as it will be very useful!

    @GMG_2,

Please open a separate thread for your request so we can escalate that to our developers as well.

UPDATE: This has now been implemented.  Select any field, click on the cog, then 'Manage Fields'.  Select the fields you would like to duplicate and then click duplicate.

amazing! REally really useful, although it seems this took a long time to come by, it just is about to save me a million hours of click click click for duplication lol NICELY DONE

    1 SUGGESTION:

Is there a way you guys can implement a way for quick field renames using this very same new management module, via say for example double click or right click on the fields in the list? or with a hotkey(F2)? currently, we still have to browse through the very long visual form to rename each duplicated section sluggishly. I bet this option would save a lot more time on forms like mine that use a huge number of duplicated fields (datasets) due to a 34 year timespan and 30 car makes and then subset of models for eah year/make at least, that i have to cover and the renaming is getting frustrating already... figured i can say it here instead of creating a new thread, but feel free to move this post around if its necessary.

if a right click option is used for this, the management module can later-based on number of requests-be expanded through the properties of each field too... just sayin.

I was searching for something similar but more for an option for users to add more fields if they want to add more information such as the example on the form link https://www.cognitoforms.com/HCS2/Form

Is this possible, is it coming soon as a feature?

    Thanks,
