You can make the payment section as mandatory then it will not be allowed to submit without filling the payment section, will throw out an error on the page.
If you don't want to opt-in for mandatory checks then you can add a condition to your form. If the payment section is 0 then hide or disable the submit button.
Let us know how do you implement this.
Thanks.

zero value.
Please give a clear instruction what I need to do to ensure that I do

To hide the submit button when the value is zero. I have followed the following steps:
1. Add a short text entry field and named it as "Cal" and copy the value from stripe payment widget to this field and hide the field.
To hide the field follow this:
2. To copy the value from Stripe to Cal field. Add the following conditions:
3. Add another condition to hide the submit button if the Cal field has "0.00" as value.
I have implemented this in my cloned form. Feel free to test and clone it.

I have added these two conditions in your form.
I would request you to kindly test your form if those conditions are working to hide the submit button.
Let us know if you need further assistance.
Thanks.

various changes to the form to try introduce new validation but was
unsuccessful and can not revert back to this version of the form.
