can i make the value different than the visible option in the drop down menu?

if this is not possible through the interface, i have already modified the code, can I upload it to replace the code of the form, if so how, where?

You cannot upload your code to our form builder, you can, however, download your source code: https://www.jotform.com/help/104-How-to-get-the-Full-Source-Code-of-your-Form and do the changes there, then you can upload it to your own domain so you can utilize it.

You can assign calculation value to each option and use it in calculations if that could work for you.
