Can I create a fillable/signable PDF contract and share it for free?

I'm trying to create a PDF but upon download, there's a message saying it needs to be opened in Acrobat. I, like many others, don't have the paid version of Acrobat which allows you to fill text in PDFs instead of just being able to look at a read-only version.

Also, the formatting looks off, and the signature box isn't showing up upon download, either. Is this because this is a paid feature?

I want to send a signable, fillable contract to clients, shared via link, inside a welcome email.

    Thanks.

The Free version of Adobe Acrobat Reader should be sufficient to edit fillable PDF forms.  Foxit PDF reader is another free alternative that seems to work quite well.  As for the signature widget not appearing in the PDF, the signature would panel would need to be added via the PDF editor:
