Can you make the sub-folders a slightly different shade please?

    Hi,

I am using the subfolder functionality to organise my forms.

Could I suggest a slightly different colour of folder to clearly delineate between a main folder and its subfolder. Even if it just a shade difference it would be a great help.

It takes a couple of looks and is a little confusing to the eye even though you have applied a slight indentation to the sub-folders.

    A feature request

    Regards Mark

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for your suggestion. I shall go ahead and ask our able programmers to change the background color of the folders, perhaps using either a darker shade or a new color altogether. We'll let you know as soon as this is in place.

Please let us know if you have any other concerns. Thank you for using JotForm!

    Hi,

I really think having subfolders a slightly different shade or colour ... i.e. a quick visual distinction .. would massively improve usability. I have difficulty visually distinguishing the folder hierarchy at-a-glance.

Did this just drop into the great "Nice-to-have" list that ... well you know??

    Hi Mark,

This was assigned to me back then, tried a copule of things about this and I thought I had written an answer but apparently I haven't, I'm really sorry about that.

    About your request.
I tried a simple stacking approach first by giving the same color with opacity but even by keeping the contrast to an acceptable minimum without losing the distinct feel,  the 3rd or the 4th stack always becomes too dark and unusuable.

Afterwards I tried a more "colorful" approach, as in multiple colors, but it pretty much looked like a clown and affected most of the UI components in that area, causing even bigger visual trouble along the way.

So it was put in our Nice-to-do list like you said, but let me assure you, it really isn't something that we use as a trash-can. I occasionally visit it to define problematic areas and we intend to turn our focus back on our UI this year. Unfortunately, I can't give you a timeframe about this, but its duely noted in my brain =]

How about tier one ... one colour and all sub-folders a slightly different shade? That's all was asking for?

OK, we just talked about it with our UI engineer just now and came up with a solution. I guess I wasn't able to think it through on my own. I'm doing it right now, will be ready within the hour.

Done. Should be deployed in a couple of minutes. Please try clearing your browser cache if you're still not seeing the difference after an hour or so.

Again, so sorry for the delay.

You don't mean that literally, right? I mean can't you see the different shades between the second and third level where the contrast is the highest??  OR is there literally no change on how the folders are displayed?

If the first is true, I can make some more minor adjustments but if its the latter, can you try visiting MyForms on another browser with a clear cache?

Also, can you try playing with your monitors brightness setting? Maybe that has some sort of effect on it.

Thanks for getting onto this. I am mindful that you have gone out of your way to get this going now and greatly appreciate that.

If I could say my initial vision for this was that the actual folder icons were slightly different colours or perhaps shades. This would give an at-a-glance visual .

    Hi,

I have looked at the Jotform interface and fail to see any change from the original. I have a dual-monitor display and am a web designer ... so if I can't see it .....?

I looked at the intial post I made on March 15 2011 here and I state ......

"Could I suggest a slightly different colour of folder to clearly delineate between a main folder and its subfolder. Even if it just a shade difference it would be a great help.

It takes a couple of looks and is a little confusing to the eye even though you have applied a slight indentation to the sub-folders."

Can you advise me as to the possibility of changing the colour of the sub-folders as demonstrated in the last post and as first suggested 300 days ago.

    I would be most grateful

hey thanks man - I understand why you thought that. Reading back on it - it could mean both. I hadn't envisaged your understanding as an option otherwise I would have made it more clear.

Thanks for doing this - I think it will be a great help to everyone who uses jotform ;)

Hey Mark, turns out that this requires a bit more than a simple image swap. We're working on it, it should be out in a day or two.

    All the best,

Do you know ... when I've bothered to put my time in to give feedback on a feature request I get irked when I don't even get a response.

SO, i'll ask again ... can I be advised on this very useful feature please?

    Hi Mark,

Sorry for the late reply, we've been really swamped lately because of the takedown.
Upon further discussion, we've decided to address this issue in the future.

I think that we can come up with a more elegant solution to your problem, as changing the folder colors seem like a temp fix and it would cause more trouble than intended.

We're planning some important updates on our UI in the following months, so please be assured that this is not a simple "added to the to-do list" message. To us, you're a really valuable customer that gives a lot of feedback and we really appreciate that.

    Thanks.
